Hey guys, I wanted to get your oppinions on a build I have been working on, I really wanted to build a Bow based cleric for ranged damage and some heals and stealth. Please let me know what you think. I was also thinking abot a tempest build similar to this. Any advice would be appreciated. My biggest fear is that a cantip might outpace the crossbow damage even with the extra attack.

Race:

Wood Elf, for the +2 dex and +1 wis, Proficiency in Perception and 4 hour resting with darkvision

Class:

Death Cleric

for martial weapons, divine strike and Inescapable destruction

Weapon: hand Crossbow

Feats:

Crossbow expert

Resilient (Dexterity)

and maybe sharpshooter

Starting Stats would Be

Str: 8
Dex: 15
Con: 14
Int: 10
Wis: 15
Cha: 8

With Racial:

Str: 8
Dex: 17
Con: 14
Int: 10
Wis: 16
Cha: 8

With Feat

Str: 8
Dex: 18
Con: 14
Int: 10
Wis: 16
Cha: 8

With Attribute bonuses at 20:

Str: 8
Dex: 20
Con: 14
Int: 10
Wis: 18
Cha: 8

Looks fine to me, have you thought about taking a few rogue levels? Or a few fighter levels?

With:

Divine Strike

At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with divine energy. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a w eapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an extra 1d8 thunder damage to the target. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8.

Your xbow attacks shouldn't fall behind your cantrips, espically with the bonus from the rogue or fighter levels.

Thank you a whole lot, I will definetly be looking at cross training. Probably mostly fighter. EK seems like those wizard cantrips would be nice, like minor illusion. Hopefully my DM will let me do this.

Bow clerics do fine in general.

But death clerics need melee attacks to use their channel divinity so you lose out there.

what if my spiritual weapon that I summon is a one handed weapon? Heh? Maybe I can make that case with the DM.

Crossbow expert isn't coming into play until 4th level at the earliest.  Probably 12th if Dex is boosted to 20 first.  Possibly 15th if the previous suggestion of multiclass Rogue or Fighter 3 is taken.

Lots of time to use Spiritual Weapon with bonus actions before crossbow expert comes into play.

Why people min/max and have one dimensional characters is beyond me. Don't people actually role play anymore?
