Basically trying to figure out which spells, invocations, and feats make the most sense, and in what order. The good thing is invocations and spells can be swapped at level ups if desired. I'm using Adventurer's League character generation rules so standard ability array (15,14,13,12,10,8) and fixed health increases at each level. With Drow racial bonuses Dexterity and Charisma will both be 16.
I want to maximize my performance without long rests and take maximum advantage of cantrips, rituals, and short-rest spell recharging. I took the skills Arcana and Intimidate. Picked up Criminal background for Deception and Stealth. Got Perception as a racial freebie. Planning on maxing Charisma which will leave 3 feat choices. Alert and Skilled are on my short list. Possibly also Observant or Spell Sniper.
Invocations that make sense:
Agonizing Blast - Added Blast Damage Armor of Shadows - Free Mage Armor (equivalent to medium armor) Book of Ancient Secrets - Access to Ritual Spellcasting and Ability to Copy Rituals into Book of Shadows Fiendish Vigor - Free HP Mask of Many Faces - Disguises Master of Myriad Forms - Disguises, Transportation, +1 Magic Natural Melee Weapon Whispers of the Grave - Speak With Dead isn't a Ritual, Flavor Witch Sight - Almost Truesight
Spells that make sense:
Cantrips: Chill Touch, Eldritch Blast, Mage Hand, Mending, Minor Illusion, Prestidigitation, Ray of Frost, Shocking Grasp, True Strike
1st Level: Alarm (ritual), Arms of Hadar, Charm Person, Comprehend Languages (ritual), Detect Magic (ritual), Detect Poison and Disease (ritual), Dissonant Whispers, Find Familiar (ritual), Hex, Identify (ritual), Purify Food and Drink (ritual), Speak With Animals (ritual), Unseen Servant (ritual), Witch Bolt
2nd Level: Animal Messenger (ritual), Augury (ritual), Beast Sense (ritual), Detect Thoughts, Gentle Repose (ritual), Invisibility, Locate Animals or Plants (ritual), Magic Mouth (ritual), Mirror Image, Misty Step, Ray of Enfeeblement, Silence (ritual)
3rd Level: Dispel Magic, Fly, Leomund's Tiny Hut (ritual), Major Image, Phantom Steed (ritual), Vampiric Touch, Water Breathing (ritual), Water Walk (ritual)
4th Level: Dimension Door, Divination (ritual)
5th Level: Commune (ritual), Commune With Nature (ritual), Contact Other Plane (ritual), Dominate Person, Rary's Telepathic Bond (ritual), Scrying
6th Level: Forbiddance (ritual)

Nothing says "social master" than having Intimidate, Persuasion, and Deception all under your belt. This leaves three skills to fill with stealth, investigation, and arcana. All potent skills.
I would also angle to try and get Disguise Kit proficency, and save yourself on needing the Invocation as long as possible. While having the Invocation is useful, its not as immediately necessary with the kit, while getting the mage armor, agonizing blast, and rituals should be a top priority during play. You should be able to get this with an appropriate background that's going to match the skills you want above anyways. |
