I am currently playing a 4th level Oath of Vengeance Paladin in D&D 5th edition. Since I have only been playing D&D off and on for about one year now, I am still kinda new, and mainly have only "rolled dice" as they say, but I do dig the role play moments. However, I'd like to start doing stuff on the role play side since nobody in the current group I am in, except for our Sorcerer, does any role playing. I took on Paladin becuase the guy who used to run a Paladin left the group. I like the idea of having a protector/controller Paladin.

Anyway, here are some specifics and some back story so maybe you folks can help me do things out of combat that will add more flavor. Here goes:

Name: Meridious Decimus

Human-Paladin - Oath of Vengeance - Neutral alignment.

Strength, Con, and Cha are highest stats in that order

Carries Shield and Long Sword

Two feats: Mobility and Sentinel

Party make up: Paladin (me), Ranger, Fighter, Sorcerer, Druid, Rouge, and Cleric

Backgrounds: Soldier (from PHB) and Faebound (a homebrew background created by our DM).

Backstory (I'll try to shorten it lol):

Meridicous was a Soldier and married a young Wizard woman named Tera. An evil Warlock named Wade Brightholm was looking for this great book that would give him extraordinary necromancy powers (to raise dead among other things) that was last seen or heard of in Tera's family lineage. Wade kidnapped Tera's brother as a bargaining chip, thinking Tera knew of the book and would hand it over, even though it had been lost hundreds of years ago. He didn't get what he wanted so he killed her brother then killed Tera and ALMOST killed Meridious as he tried to rescue her. Wade left the scene to plot another way of going about his evil plans.

Meanwhile, as Meridious lay dying, he was rescued by Mab the Queen of Air and Darkness of the Winter Court (part of my DM's Faebound background). She took him to her realm and cured him up. As debt for sparing his life and with a promise of assured vengeance against Wade, she made him swear an obligation to her Winter Court. In his haste for revenge he agreed and was sent back to his home realm. There he began a quest to find Wade.

Along the way he befrineded an Oath of Vengeance Paladin named Varis. They became good buddies and Varis began trying to convert Meridious into a Paladin. Then they befriended a Goblin Wizard. They helped a few towns beat back zombies and such but then went their seprate ways. A while later Meridious, still on the trail for Wade, came across his buddy Varis who was with a new group. They let Meridious in the group and, since the grouop was heading toward the same area Meridious had intel on in regards to Wade, Meridious gladly welcomed the extra help.

The group ran into some problems and got side tracked fighting lizardfolk, trolls, and a runt black dragon. In the process his buddy Varis, the Paladin, died. To honor his buddy Varis, he put aside the Ranger that he was and took on the Oath of Vengeance in his stead. He has sworn allegiance to and worships the Pantheon/Deity/Goddess "The Raven Queen" (goddess of death, war, and fate) whom's alignment is Neutral. He put her symbol on his shield. Obviously there will be a rift with one or both of the Queens in this picture. He he obligated to one, but worships another. One grants him awesome powers while the other saved his life.

So, tell me, what are some things a Paladin would do outside of combat? Aside from praying, buying stuff at the blacksmith place/markets, and freqenunting Taverns. Keep in mind he is not so much the goody two shoes Paladin. Tell me of some things a Paladin in your group(s) used to do in your campaigns, from the good, the bad, the funny,  to the down right "WTH?!?!"

PS Most in our group are N or CG

Thanks guys.
