Paladins, Find Steed, And Unicorns

Is there a hard answer yet on how a Paladin might go about getting a unicorn mount, as suggested in the Monster Manual? The thought of a Green Knight riding a Fey Unicorn (using that option from  Find Steed) is unbearably cool, but there are no obvious rules for how to go about actually doing it. Thoughts?

This is one spell that is without equal in the realm of "DM Fiat."

If your DM allows it, you get it.

That said, I'd probably require you to use a higher slot to get the Unicorn. Conjure Celestial requires a Level 9 spell slot to grab it (also a totally legitimate way to grab it) and the Couatl is so much a better choice for that spell, and costs a slot less.

That said, if you really want to get this with just Find Steed, I'd suggest requesting that it's allowed with some part of it not as good as what's listed in the stat block in the monster manual.

Also, if it's just the imagery you want, take a Warhorse and say it's a Unicorn.

As far as imagery goes, I've been picturing a a knight in green laquered armor with a visor on his helmet done like a Gree-Man mask, wielding a Silvered Longaxe (call it a Glaive) astride an Elk. The rules question just bugged me; I've got 3.5 in my blood.

You could use Alter Self a lot, on the horse, for an extra d6.  Look it says Unicorn so ...

Elk is a great option as well.

normally, i really hate (and always try to avoid) hijacking threads, but this is too close (and convenient) to pass up...

Has there been any discussion as to why wizards can Find Familiar, at 1st level, but a paly must wait until 5th to Find Steed?

It seems to me that each spell is as inherent to one class as the other.  I could perhaps see the paly needing to wait until 3rd when

he chooses his oath but 5th seems illogical.  Has anyone houseruled this down to third?

Thanks

I don't like that this requires a spell slot (mainly because it's kind of a terrible spell) and I think Paladin's should have it right away
