1- Tripwire trap. Fairly easy to set up with a climbers kit or some pitons, a hammer and some wire or rope.
2- Pitfall trap. Have enough time to dig a hole and cover it with branches and leaves. Maybe put some sharpened sticks in the bottom.
3- Arrow trap. Tripwire to the trigger and an extra crossbow.
4- Spiked log trap. Put spikes through a log and attach it to a rope hanging from the cealing. Set a tripwire to release the log in a fashion similar to the paint buckets from Home Alone.
5- Hunting snares or a bear trap. Buy some mechanical snares or a bear trap in town or at an outpost that might have them. Drive a post into the ground and attach the chain of the snare to it.
I'm looking for some simple trap ideas I might be able to use here and there and suppliment with illusion magic. Have you come up with any others that have worked well in your games? |

I'm currently playing a gnome illusionist, so I have planned out a few things like:
False floors over pits.
Poisons/Acid that taste/smell like good things
I also like to ward things off with traps too, make it look so menacing that its not worth someone’s time to tamper with, or so scary they don't want to bother it.

After we cleared the room, I decided to scoop up a bunch of the fake coins to stuff my coin purse full. I wrote it on my adventure log, and I can't wait until some poor sod tries to pick my pocket.
In another AL adventure I used the fake coins as 'insulation' on a Sending Stone we stole, so nobody could hear it "ring" while we were trying to be Stealthy, and whoever was "on the other end of the line" could not hear us, either.
Of course the bag of "GP" is available as bait, to encourage some greedy fool to walk into the real trap.

The spear(s) is spring-loaded by elastic saplings. A trp wire pulls a stake fixing the sapling to the ground. Poison the spears for higher level targets. |
