#1 BlackRequiem Dec 31, 2014 15:28:31	Hi, I'm trying to make a Human Bard character that uses Polearm Master but i've been struggling with it. Our starting level is three. I would appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks.

#3 WizardV Dec 31, 2014 18:06:54	Well your feat is locked down and you're too low level for the combo aspect of the feat. As a bard your inspiration is creating competition for your bonus action which you won't like. You could go lore for cutting words but your reaction tempo is also consumed by polearm master. Basically you're going to have harder time using your class abilities due to tempo competition. What is appealing about a bard for you?   If you want a casting melee character the blade-lock works better with polearm master where after level 5 you can use war caster to get full eldritch blasts off with your polearm master OA. It's still charisma based if you need a party face and even has an invocation to get those social skills.

BI dice have long enough duration to be applied before combat and limited enough supply that a occasionally renewing BI is the only competition. Battle magic doesn't compete with the bonus action at 14th level because the bard can make the attack action or cast a spell but not both. The feat can be available at 1st level on a variant human. Something to keep on mind, if a person is planning on cantrips and attacking at 14th level then polearm master becomes situational.
