Polearm Master + War Caster

I tried searching for this, dunno if it's been brought up in other threads...

But if this is legit, I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned it as an option.

Polearm Mastery: "While you are w ielding a glaive, halberd, pike, or quarterstaff, other creatures provoke an opportunity attack from you when they enter your reach."

It doesn't say it has to be a weapon attack, or an attack with that "polearm" weapon. It just says that creatures provoke opportunity attacks.

Combine that with...

War Caster: "When a hostile creature’s movement provokes an opportunity attack from you, you can use your reaction
to cast a spell at the creature, rather than making an opportunity attack. The spell must have a casting time o f 1 action and must target only that creature."

Suddenly, just having a quarterstaff (aka, Staff of the Magi or other magic staff you'd want anyway) causes creatures to provoke AOOs when they enter at least melee range.

The Shenanigans:

Bard Vicious Mockery: Use this before their attack to give them disadvantage on that very attack, keep your normal actions during your own round.

Warlock Eldritch Repelling Blast: Aka the "GET AWAY FROM ME" technique. Knock them back 10 feet if they get close to you.

Level 6 Tempest Cleric with Witch Bolt: Same as the Warlock Eldritch Blast, except you can continue to push them back once your turn comes around if you so desire.  Need to multiclass an arcane class to pull this off. Also works with Shocking Grasp or Chromatic Sphere if you don't want to break concentration.

Otto's Irresistable Dance, Banish, Otiluke's Hamster (or Snow) Ball, Levitate, etc: Pick your poison single target save or suck. Especially effective if you actually have the 10' reach. Stop the target in their tracks before they get close to you.

I'm sure there's more fun to be had here. Probably have to be a Human to pull this off without losing too many ABI/Feats, but I think it's a fun gimmick if nothing else.

Aww. Now I'm sad. I really wanted the warlock thing to work.  War caster and pole arm master would've been so awesome.
