So, there used to be a thread where you could ask aspiring artists to either GIMP, Photoshop a known piece of art to suit a character, or even that they draw up something entirely new. I thought that was an awesome thread. To be honest, I thought it was awesome primarily because I'm utterly crap at all those things and I got free portraits out of it.
Still think it's a good idea to have one of those threads though so here it is.
Request 1: Sir Reginald von Stiffleton the 33rd, of Fondlestein Monastery.
Str 16, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 9, Wis 16, Cha 12.
Human Male, Cleric 1.
Equipment
Heroic Longsword (display piece, mace equivalent)
Divine Plate Mail (ceremonial, chain mail equivalent)
Holiest Symbol (a wooden plaque that fell off the wall of the monastery during the battle with the cultists, hitting one on the head thereby distracting him long enough that Reginald could smite him, thus appearing to Reginald to be a holy vessel, that has elvish script on it saying, "Ladies room this way," and an arrow beneath it pointing to the right)
Wooden shield (a round tabletop from the monastery battle that he attached leather straps and a handle to and painted a red and white bulls eye on the front of so that evil knows where to come to be smited)
Herbalist's Kit, Gardener's Kit, backpack, sack, trail rations (5 days), waterskin (2 gallon), holy spirits (wood alcohol).
Personality Traits
Truly believes he is the Chosen One. Of which god he's not quite sure and what his purpose is he hasn't quite figured out but he will be the very first person to tell everyone once he finds out.
Is always referring to his "time at the monastery" but fails to mention that he was the groundskeeper there and not an actual acolyte and never actually studied or even aspired to be one.

To go out and smite the smiteworthy with smiteyness!
Bonds
His very blunt, for display purposes only, sword that he wields with clumsy imprecision is his most prized possession due it leading to his Divine Ascension during an attack on the monastery by an evil cult where he pried it off the wall and saved the visiting Archbishop from certain death by wildly swinging it with maximum abandon at the cultists.
Flaws
Despite his bluster, he has no idea what he's doing or why he's doing it. His one moment of glory at the monastery gave him an opportunity to get out of the rut he was in and "be" somebody. However he has no idea who or what he is meant to, or even wants to, be and so is merely bluffing his way through situation after situation until he's either called on it or or dies in a flaming, agonising, but more than likely very courageous (or stupid) act.
Background
Reginald Stiffleton was born in the small hamlet of Fondlestein, a town renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship of ale mugs. As an orphan, he grew up amongst the clergy of the hamlet's church of Torm. He often saw the knights and paladins and clerics stop by and wondered at their awesomeness. As he grew he began to make himself useful by tending to the gardens of the church, always dreaming of one day being someone special, like the paladins of Torm.
When the church was assaulted by evil cultists of some dragon-thingy or other, he didn't even think before tearing off a sword from the wall of the church, clumsily donning some ceremonial armour from a stand against the same wall and picking up the remains of a smashed table and using it as a shield whilst he swung wildly at the cultists. Somehow he not only managed to survive the encounter but also saved the life of the visiting Archbishop of Torm.
In recognition of his bravery and heroic deeds, he was awarded the title "Honourary Knight of Torm," by the Archbishop who remarked, "It is truly a miracle that you survived this day as none other but the gods themselves must've protected you, and through you, me." Reginald took this very literally and so immediately believed that he was a Chosen One of the gods.
After the adulation and praise died down from the events and life started going back to normal, Reginald realised he was no longer satisfied by his sedentary life and so picked up his treasured sword, his flimsy "plate mail" armour, and make-shift shield, and decided that he was going to fulfil his Divine Purpose... whatever that ended up being.

Regardless of what section the thread ends up in, it will always be edition-neutral, system-neutral and even genre-neutral. Fielded requests have several times included Star Wars aliens and terrain shots with no character in them at all.
Requests get fielded based on the artists' available time, how long they'll take and how hard they are to pull off.
So, should we use one of those threads (and which one?) or this one?

Although I haven't had time in quite a while to do requests, I certainly don't check the 5E boards very often either. So, if the people modding images are in the 4E CharDev thread, you should probably go there if you want something done. Unless somebody starts fielding the requests here, posting them here won't do much good if none of the photoshop guys are looking here.

The main reason for this being that we've concluded that the thread really needs an updated First Post - containing not just a statement of the purpose of the thread, but also:
- some basic "rules" and guidelines for posting requests, and some helpful information for the uninitiated about just what our image manipulation programs can and can't do.
- helpful information about the forum, such as how to use Spoiler Blocks, how to make hyperlinks and how to insert images, etc.
- links to both the previous thread and a rather large collection of galleries and image collections that we've discovered over the years, many of which contain multiple versions of images we've modified or posted in the past.
After nearly 15,000 posts in the old thread, many of the earlier images are nothing more than broken links that disappeared with the original posters, and it may well be time to retire it and start anew. It is quite literally the dawning of a new era, as the current What Do YOU Think My Character Looks Like? thread is literally the oldest and longest continuing thread on the forum, dating back SIX YEARS.
We should have our First Post hashed out by the end of the week, and will be restarting the thread under the title "What Do YOU Think My Character Looks Like? Pt. 2". After the first post is up, we'll be contacting a mod about getting it stickied...
