An attempt to make Rangers more attractive.

~~Quarry
Replace the Ranger’s Favored Enemy special feature with this special feature.

The ranger is a master hunter, using the most minute clues to track and defeat his prey. Once per long rest, the ranger may select a quarry. A quarry may be a single individual or a group of creatures united by a singular social tie. A quarry cannot be an entire race of creatures.

To select a quarry, the ranger must meet one of the follow criteria: he must have observed the creature for at least 15 minutes within the last month, he must have successfully tracked the day he selects it, or he must observe a place the creature has slept-which cannot have been disturbed since the creature stayed there. Once the ranger selects a quarry, he then selects one of the following benefits against his quarry:
Know thy enemy: He gains advantage on all skill and ability checks against the quarry, or in direct relation to the quarry.
Combat Edge: Once per round he gains advantage on one attack roll, savings throw, or defense roll against his quarry.
Find the Weakness: The ranger gains +2 to all damage rolls against his quarry.
Mark of the Hunter: The Ranger knows his target well enough that he can cast Hunter’s Mark upon the target without meeting the targeting restrictions of the spell.
At level 6, the Ranger may make two selections from the list, and at level 14, the ranger may make 3 selections.

Favored Terrain
The Ranger gains the benefits for Favored Terrain in all types of terrain.

Foe Slayer
This class feature applies to the Ranger’s quarry.

Too over the top. Advantage is very powerful once per round is too much.

IF you were doing a redo of the ranger base model I'd suggest advantage on one roll (attack or interaction roll etc) per short rest vs chosen enemy and the foe slayer grants Wisdom to attack and damage.

Now your suggestion looks like a flexible favoured enemy - sort of like the pathfinder slayer.

I do like your quarry rule but I'd just say a few rounds to observe OR a successful day tracking them, seeing where they slept etc otherwise its too awkward.

Favoured terrain for all is too heavy as well.

Mark of the hunter seems too OP as a class advantage as well,

On the contrary, Rangers can already get save-ends advantage pretty easily with Ensnaring Strike. Or consider the lvl3 Avenger Paladin, who can get advantage on ALL attacks against a target for 1 minute, once per short rest.

Minor nitpick, but there's no such thing as a "defense roll," as opposed to a saving throw. You mean disadvantage on the attacker's roll? I don't know if this and saves are quite thematically appropriate. A Ranger doesn't duel wild lions, she hunts them. But I'm also imagining a fight against a multi-attacking aura-projecting dragon, or a horde of kobolds, and it seems like the Ranger should feel especially at home there compared to other folk. So I guess I'm not sure. I guess a criticism I do have is that this feature is quite good against one enemy, but has no great applications against many enemies, and Rangers are supposed to be able to specialize for either case.

I also disagree that favored terrain everywhere is that OP. Without that feature, a Ranger is identical to anyone else with Survival, and they're trading a class feature (on par with Lay on Hands, Martial Arts, Cunning Action, etc) for the privilege. Even with this boost, it can go utterly unused depending on the campaign; this version just makes it a little less likely that will happen.

I don't quite understand Mark of the Hunter. Does it still require spending a spell slot to cast Hunter's Mark? If so, HM is a bonus action anyway, and only lasts an hour, so I'm not sure why you'd want to cast it when the target isn't around yet. Know Thy Enemy already gives advantage on skill checks to locate, and that's the only other use of that spell.
