Respec Item? 3.5e

Is there some sort of item or way without like bending rules to respec a character and move skills around? I was new to the game at first and didnt know about multiclassing and prestige classes. Now that I do I want to do them but since we started out lvl 4 I would have to take the xp gain penalty. This is for 3.5e btw.

This is the 5e forums, not 3.5.

 

But, i think the answer is to simply ask your DM.  I usually allow people to respec.

Paticularly new people. 

And even more so if they keep the same basic character (name and personaltiy) and are only adjusting mechanics.
