Ring Of Halfling WIshes?

Hello everyone! I recently acquired a Ring Of Halfling Wishes and haven't had the chance to use it yet. My DM won't tell me anything about how they work (just that I should wish for something and see how it goes) so I am a bit suspicious. Does anyone have any experience with Halfling Wishes? How do they differ from regular wishes? Knowing my DM they are probably often unhelpful but could end up being invaluable in certain situations if I figure out how to use them correctly. The ring has unlimited wishes which means there must be a twist to it because there is no way he would let me have unlimited easy and powerful wishes! So basically I'm just wondering if there is any interesting lore or past experiences about such things out there (I'm very new to D&D). I am a halfing sorcerer, level 7.

Isn't this kinda like trying to 'cheat' at the game?  Whats the point?  It would be like reading a module ahead of time, just to 'win' the adventure.

 

Its a game, try the ring out and see how it goes....

That said, have you looked into the mechanics for identifying a magic object. Iirc identifying it includes how it works.

When I read the name "Ring of Halfling Wishes" I immediately think that the ring will grant only wishes that ask for things a halfling would want.  And, given that halflings are generally described as being contented creatures, I would expect the ring to only grant wishes for food, booze, and maybe a comfortable chair.

 

Of course, I'm also very leary of anything that grants wishes (especially given the D&D history of encouraging the bending of wishes).  If one of my characters received such a thing, I'd probably either try to sell it or just erase it from my character sheet and forget about it.

Pippin wished for a 1 way ticket to a Paraelemental Plane of Smoke, demiplane called "Took".

 

Sam wished for that hot piece of putaruru, Sarah McLeod, and that wish came true.  She's from putaruru, hey you weren't thinking impure Halfling thoughts there were you?

This item reminds me of the old joke where the genie grants the dude 3 wishes, "but whatever you wish for, your ex-wife gets twice as much." So he wishes for a million dollars, and gets a million dollars, but she gets two million. He wishes for a jumbo jet and gets a jumbo jet, but she gets two jumbo jets. He thinks for a minute and then says, "Okay, for my third wish, genie... I want you to scare me half to death."
