Hi, I have been playing for a little bit but I am having some problems figuring out what my characters ac would be. He is a Lightfoot Halfing Rogue. He has Leather armor +1 with proficiencies in light armors. I can not for the life of me determine what his ac is because I am just not understanding that section or something, I am also trying to determine weather it would be better to stick with my current armor or buy something a little stronger.

His stats are
lv. 5
Str: 8
Dex: 18
Con: 12
Int: 13
Wis: 10
Cha: 16

Also I don't know if it makes a difference in which armor i should buy (if any) but my rogue just acquired some "boots of striding and springing" which I believe make it so he can use armors above what he could normally use (again I'm really not sure as i am still very new to this game)

Thanks for any help you can give me, and sorry if i sound confusing.

Leather Armor provides an AC of 11+Dex Mod, so 11+4 for you. That would be 15 AC, howver you have a +1 Leather Armor, so add a further 1 to that. 15+1 is 16. Your AC is 16 (Barring any shield you may use, or spell that might be cast on you to raise it)

You are only proficient in Light armor, so the 'best' you can get is Studded Leather, but that will give you 12+Dex, or 16 AC. The same as what you have.

So you could sell your +1 leather for either plain studded, or maybe magical studded, and that would get you either extra money, or better AC.

Your boots would keep you from being slowed down if you were proficient and wearing Heavy Armor but did not have the min str, but since you are not proficient in Heavy Armor, you would still be at disadvantage for all Dex and Str  ability checks, saving throws and attack rolls.
