| #1Napolean_WarlordJul 19, 2015 0:02:47 | Hello!
I'm joining a group at the FLGS running RoT. I have three characters (level 6 sharpshooting ranger and a level 6 polearm paladin and a level 8 evoker wizard) that I'm choosing from. Party has no wizard, but a Bladelock.
There's a level 9 barb with Hazirawn in the party already. I'm thinking that my Paladin will be super overshadowed. The Ranger will be also be a overshadowed (my experience is that stealth doesnt get you much in the HotDQ/RoT series).
I dont like playing wizards at the FLGS because none of the groups I've run with have ever been able to coordinate strategy by any means.
So... an open ended question, but any thoughts regarding which of these characters would be the least useless to play over the RoT story arc?
I could respec my ranger to a ranged fighter build, that might have more relevance / staying power.
Apologies for the open ended question! |

I've played with Bladelocks, Paladins, Assassin Rogues, etc, yet I still haven't met another PC that I've felt like is over shadowing my character. Use your sharpshooter bonus damage on low AC enemies, and focus fire on on higher level enemies using your colossus slayer. Outside of combat you can scout ahead of the group to relay information on enemy numbers and positions. |

| #8BRJNJul 21, 2015 19:21:21 | My "warlord" Paladin9 would probably Bless the Hazirawn-wielding Barb, or Crusader's Mantle himself and keep position as the follow-up wave. Why compete with the guy when you really want to compete with the enemies?
Also think about Command: "Move over by him" -point at Barb-

| #9FrogReaverJul 21, 2015 22:39:25 | A pure crssbow expertise sharpshooter fighter that uses precision attack well can stay fairly competitive in DPR to the barbarian hariwzan character. At level 11 you will likely overtake him in damage. |
| #10VulfJul 22, 2015 2:00:00 | 5 levels of sharpshooter Fighter, 1 level of Rogue!
Either Battlemaster or Champion. Both can make your future 10 levels of Assassin rogue do decent damage.
Make sure to always tell the DM that you sneak ahead of the party to scout, do your best to get surprise rounds.
Expertise should be Stealth and Perception.
You should be able to drop an enemy or 2 before the barbarian even gets a turn.
Keep a rapier or two. |

| #12ElfcrusherJul 22, 2015 8:00:05 | As Sorsohka above implies, maybe the OP should worry less about competing on DPR and more on having a successful party. By that measure, they have an awesome damage dealer in the form of a Hazirawn Barbarian, so his greatest contribution might be to help make sure the barbarian can do his thing.
The tricky part is that he seems to have built all his characters as damage dealers. Since the Paladin can pick whatever spells he wants that might be a good route, for buffing and protecting the barbarian. Similarly, depending on what spells the Sorceror has that might be an option. But keeping the barbarian alive and unrestrained (feared, cursed, poisoned, etc.) and buffing him seems like a good strategy.

I'n my group we managed to get a hand on hazirawn but we had to destroy it because anybody who wielded it and didn't comply with its personality (we were fighting the cult so automaticly in contrast with the sword) would fail the roll vs the sentient item as in the DMG. |
