Hello, I am playing a evocation wizard. and my lvl 10 feature says i can add my Int modifier to the damage roll of any evocation spell. For spells that do multiple damage rolls  (magic missile) do i add my modifier to every roll of damage?

I would allow it in my games.

I think there was a decision that you only add it once per target. So if you throw all your magic missiles at the same creature, you add it once to the total whereas if you divide them between several creatures, you add it once for each of them. I can't provide any links to that, though, except to say that it was on twitter, Mike Mearls, July 12th 2014. It's consistent with the general principle that a bonus doesn't stack with itself.

For fireball I said if you add damage on ATTACK, but Empowered Evocation is per damage roll, so yes you add your Int on the damage roll that EVERYONE take.

Eldritch blast and Scorching ray you add Intellect on each ray

Magic Missile, if you care about Mike Mearl tweets, then Magic Missile is an exception, other wise it's just like Eldritch Blast and Scorching ray

I've scrolled back in twitter to find the tweet I thought I remembered. Sorry it's come out so huge, something about the way tweets copy and paste into this forum.

So based on his form of intent it's only supposed to apply once per target and that quote doesn't seem to mention magic missile...  Maybe tweet jeremy crawford and see?  Nothing in the text for the feature seems to limit it to one per target of a spell.

At level 10, would giving each missile an increase of probably +5 be more powerful than another spell cast in the same slot by a significant degree? I will be honest in that I am too lazy to do the math for each spell to compare, but I know even in a third level slot, Fireball's 8d6+5 to multiple targets can be compared to 5d4+30 (5+(5x5)) to a single target from a MM.

There was another tweet at about the same time, suggesting that for Magic Missile you only roll the damage die once per target and multiply the answer by the number of missiles, rather than rolling a separate die for each missile individually. That would be consistent with this one. I'm struggling to get back in twitter to last July and copy the tweets into here. I'll keep trying though.

I think that's all I can get from Mike Mearls' tweets. I know some people argue that he is fallible and what he says is not necessarily "correct" so a clarifying twitter message to Jeremy Crawford sounds like a good idea. Shall we try to get the wording right between us here, so whatever answer we get is unambiguous ?

Suggestion (15 characters spare if you think it can be clarified) :

@JeremyECrawford #dnd Empowered Evocation + Magic Missile : Int Modifier added to damage of each missile? Or once per target?
