#1 rgoodbb May 11, 2015 2:29:43	Have the mechanics of this been sifted through here at all?   2  PC's wielding and overlocking shields down a 10' wide passageway   More than 2 PC's overlockng in a line   -Are there benefits?  -Would it need a fighting style or feat?  -Would spear wielders (those poor underpowered spear wielders) gain any bonuses from this?   My own thoughts are that there should be benefits    Any thoughts from you folks at all?
#2 Cutlass May 11, 2015 2:55:44	The Greek phalanx formations and the Roman legions, among numerous others, used shield wall tactics to great effect. Not so fantastic for small groups of half a dozen or less most of whom aren't trained with martial weapons. In the case of moving down a 10 foot wide corridor it does have reasonable utility because the 2 guys in front can't get flanked. However, unless the guys behind them are proficient with weapons that have the "reach" ability they will have to support the guys in front by using ranged weapons or casting spells. Either way, the guys in front provide half cover to the bad guys from the attacks of those in the rear rank. If you really want to specialize in this sort of thing your front rank guys should probably take the Shield Master feat.
