What do you think would represent an average set of encounters for a party of 4?

The building blocks we have are

  • Short rest
  • Long rest
  • 15 minute rest
  • Suprise
  • A few rounds of preperation
  • BBEG/Solo
  • Group of artilery
  • Group of weak mooks
  • CR + X | -3 <= X <= +3
  • Monster HP(CR or XP or Level)
  • Monster Attack(CR or XP or Level)
  • Monster Damage(CR or XP or Level)
  • Monster save DC(CR or XP or Level)

What kind of resources would the DM have to make the day

  • 1/2 of the XP to get party to next level
  • 4 encounters of CR = party level
  • ?

Are there more building blocks that are critical for estimating an "average" day?

I know that "average" is very subjective, but I'm trying to simply make some bar that scales with level appropiatly.

The current candidate is:

  1. Long rest
  2. Ambushed by group of artilery and mooks (3x CR-2)
  3. Short rest
  4. Ambush group of artilery and mooks (2x CR-1)
  5. 15 minute rest
  6. Prepare
  7. BBEG (CR +1)
