Hey, I am currently playing a 3rd Level Sorcerer, and my Dad is playing a 5th Level Wizard(Just converting from Playtest to 5th rules) and we now need a new way to have a high armor class since having an AC of 10 is not really effective and our DM ambushes our party a lot. We used to use Mage Armor, but the changes with the spell, we do not really want to keep using it. Also, I do not want to take Draconic origin as my Sorcerer's origin just for the AC since my character is a Human random thin scales popping up on him is not familiar with the party. Are there any alternatives for us, we have not taken feats yet so we can not take the feats for Light Armor.

Cheers, Chris.

mage armor(spell), shield(spell) and staying near allies and cover will keep you alive, you could consider taking a level in another class to give you armor profiiency or otherwise increase your AC: cleric might be a pretty good one depending on your strength and dexterity you can wear armor of your choice,  you would add much versatility in your spells, possibly add some useful weapon options, shield proficiency, a 1st lvl power and also would still advance in spellslot progression, if not spells known, which you can use for both cleric and sorcerer spells.

I'd also point out that the difference between level 3 and level 5 is quite extreme in 5e. That's not normally going to end well.

Kill enemies faster.

Add some dexterity or constitution.
