There arent many rules for special materials in 5e. that was left more to DM discretion. The traditional special materials in D&D are Mithril and Adamant. Mithril is linked to dwarves and their crafts and is generally lighter weight. Adamantine on the other hand is known for its strength and ability to hold a keen edge. A there are a few more materials that are magical in nature like Glassteel which is literally glass that was enchanted to be as strong as steel by a powerful wizard and I dont remember the name for it but there is a similar wood that is enchanted to act like steel. All of these would require your DM to adjudicate and they are all pretty rare.

The only real special weapon material right now is Silver, which can be added to a weapon for 100 gp. Good if you need to assassinate werebeasts, I guess.
