Both Arcana and Insight seem to be the likely candidates for a Spellcraft check, but neither is quite right. Arcana seems to involve bookish knowledge rather than identifying what a character is doing, while Insight reads what the other person is doing, but the skill isn't necessarily associated with spellcasting expertise, so, for instance, why would a thief with Insight know what a wizard is casting?
Perhaps Insight is the best skill for the job, but only spellcasters would be proficient in using it to determine what another spellcasters is casting. Perhaps they may only be proficient in knowing what another spellcasters like themselves is casting...so a wizard could tell what another wizard is casting but would lose proficiency in using Insight to figure out what a Druid is casting? |
