Whether they gain it fairly, through a tomb, steal it, etc. I am on a mental block of thinking of the story at all. I like the idea of a witch asking for help, and I have a player in the game who inspired me to do it. She is playing as a young witch and I could get her to be the witch who asks for the help, or does whatever. Whether or not the witch is in the party or not, I could really use some cool recommendations for creating the game. Background story, land/area, quest ideas, where to find some new spells. Anything would be greatly appreciated. |

The Hag would be desguised as a young woman; tells the players of a tomb in the swamp they could explore, maybe the Hag lost somthing down there or knows of an Artifact she wants. She might intrigues the adventures by telling them of wealth inside the tomb, so they clear it out for her. (The artifact the Hag wants can be used by the young witch in your party to learn her new spells). In this tomb could be goodies for the other players as well, weapon for fighter or some staff for your shaman. When the party clears the tomb to the artifact the Hag wants, she comes out of hiding and shows her true self. Group attempts to take her down and boom.
This could also lead to future adventures, maybe the group finds a map or a clue to another tomb in a diffrent part of your world. |

There are some great possibilities for roleplaying, as perhaps the player learns that her mother has a darker side to her. But be careful that you do not make her a villain outright. Keep it a mystery, and play around with the idea that her intentions might be shady.
As for the plot, I could imagine that the witch is actually working on something very important, that will affect the fate of the land profoundly. Witches often keep a lot of secrets, and they know a great deal. Maybe what she is working on, ties directly into the history of the country. Every quest the players do for her, fits into her overall plan in some way. And with each quest, the daughter could learn new things about her mother. Eventually this could steer the plot into a direction where the players no longer trust the witch, and maybe unknowingly ally themselves with the real villain of the story.
Of course it would be better if there was some way to tie the other players into this as well. The mother-daughter angle works for the player that is playing the witch. But it would be even better if the other characters have some other connection with the story. |
