Sunblades and monks

Was looking at the new rules for sun blades the other day, and it occurred to me: would this let a monk use a longsword as a monk weapon? Sun blades basically function as short swords or longswords (whichever is more convenient) but do d8 radiant damage, as opposed to slashing or piercing. So could a monk use one with two hands, getting d10 as a versatile weapon, and still use it as a monk weapon? Jedi anyone?

Looks like SOMEone was typing from their phone and didn't bother checking first

(OT, I'm not sure, and will have to check my book. But it sounds like it won't work the way you'd like it to. Unless you were an elf with a lenient DM, maybe)

Dammit autocorrect ... Well that's what I'm calling them from now on. But let's say you were proficient with a longsword from another source (like being an elf) then is there any reason you shouldn't be able to have your cake and eat it to? (It's not as though it's particularly OP)
