| #1whitishknightJul 01, 2015 17:35:00 | I'm looking to be the only tank in a party with a sorcerer, warlock, ranger, and rogue/bard. This party is almost all ranged and damage oriented. I'd like to be as tough as possible on the frontline and use spells like spiritual guardians to protect my party while providing some utility and healing as well.
What domain should I choose? I was considering Trickery since getting a duplicate with spiritual guardians seems like it could be fun as a "tank".
What race should I choose? I've been looking at Hill Dwarf since it provides a good amount of defensive benefits.
Should I multiclass? Level 17 cleric seems like it gets pretty much everything the class offers, and higher level stuff doesn't seem to be quite as enticing as arcane magic spells (I might be wrong). Should I pick up a few levels in something else? |

Hill Dwarf is a good choice. Gnome isn't bad either for some spell defense.
Abjuration wizard can net you some more HP while keeping your higher level spell slots. |

War domain is not as bad as some people make it out to be. Other choices may have more oomph, but the concept of the war cleric is good.

Sanctuary is a good spell if you’re not planning on taking any offensive actions during a round. |
| #7LilikaJul 02, 2015 13:51:49 | I was thinking about making a very similar character. I went with Life Domain and Hill Dwarf, seems pretty solid, great wis, con and heavy armor plus shield. |
| #8Greenstone.WalkerJul 02, 2015 14:36:11 | I have a similar character dor AL games. Warer Genasi Tempest Cleric. He currently wears chain mail (AC 18 at 1st level) and uses a shield and hammer. I ned +1 STR then I can get the heavier armour. |
| #9ZardnaarJul 02, 2015 15:40:37 | Spiritual Guardians kind of sucks without proficinecy in con saves or the warcaster feat. Expect to lose it a lot. Consider starting as a fighter for 1 level and then multiclassing into the cleric espicially if you are looking at a domain only granting medium armor. |
| #10randlJul 02, 2015 16:50:01 | I went with the Nature Domain on my Hill Dwarf for AL thinking that being able to give out Elemental resistance as a reaction would go well against Elemental Evil. Kind of reduces the MADness of it with Shilaleigh or Thorn Whip (to pull people to you), but definitely found the Channel Divinity less useful. |
| #11warpigletJul 02, 2015 17:32:07 | I went tempest with variant human. I took heavy armor master at first. Might take great weapon master at 4th or resilient with con saves. Whichever I don't take I will take at 8th. So far, I am throwing down with wrath of the storm and Warhammer and shield. Excited though to cast spells which put opponent at disadvantage and then hammer with the maul for 10 xtra damage |
