over at Candlekeep a user created a bladesinger base class as homebrew, it can be found here:

it got me to thinking and i added comments with how i'd do it instead, which i've no further expanded on below:

 

The Bladesinger as a class

 

Show

Proficiencies
Armor: Light
Weapons: Simple Weapons, (their other training is in their ancestral weapons)
Tools: None
Saving Throws: Intelligence, Dexterity
Skills: Choose two from Arcana, Acrobatics, Athletics, History,
Investigation and performance

hit dice: d8


Level 1 Cantrips, Spellcasting, Improved Elven Weapon Training
Level 2 bladesong style (Archetype)
Level 3 -
Level 4 ability increase
Level 5 -
Level 6 Extra Attack
Level 7 Archetype ability
Level 8 ability increase

Level 10 Song of Celerity

Spellcasting:

This feature is identical to the wizard feature, you use the wizard spell list and Intelligence is your casting stat.


Improved Elven Weapon Training
You gain the benefits of the dueling and defense fighting styles with longswords and shortswords

 

Song of Celerity
may cast a single action spell as a bonus action This ability can be used again after a short or long rest, each time you gain this ability it can be used an extra time per short/long rest

 

 

Song of Fury
Whenever the bladesinger successfully strikes an opponent with a critical hit, she may recharge an expended level 3 or lower spell slot.

Spellsong Style

At 2nd level you learn the complexities of the Bladesong Style
- For one minute you add intelligence to Armour Class and Damage Rolls with spells so long as you have no weapon or shield in your other hand.

- You gain advantage on concentration checks if you made at least one melee attack in the previous turn

 

This ability cannot be used again without taking a short or long rest

 

War Magic

At 7th level you may make a single melee attack as a bonus action after casting a cantrip
This functions exactly the same as the Eldritch Knight ability

 

Needs an ability for level 14

 

 

 

Path of the Blade

 

Bladesong Style

At 2nd level you learn the complexities of the Bladesong Style

- For one minute you add intelligence to Armour Class and Damage Rolls with Short Swords or Longswords so long as you have no weapon or shield in your other hand.

- You gain advantage on attack rolls if you moved at least 10'

 

This ability cannot be used again without taking a short or long rest

 

Arcane Strike

At 7th level you learn to empower your weapon with arcane energies, on a successful hit, you may expend a spell slot to add 1d8 sonic damage, you add a further 1d8 damage for each level above first that is expended.

 

Improved Song of Celerity

At 14th level you may use song of celerity one additional time, furthermore, if you have bladesong style active, your speed increases by a number of feet equal to the spell level cast x 5' during any turn where song of Celerity is used

I'll put a plug for my Swordmage class (which has been reviewed and critiqued on these forums for balance) that can be used to construct a bladesinger-style character fairly easily. Check from my sig below. It has 5th level spellcasting, an extra attack, ability to attack + cast, a separate spell list, and one of the archetypes offers an arcane strike option.
