| #1HermanTheWizeMar 05, 2015 6:52:09 | This a short intro story that I put together for a character, a human barbarian, I will be playing in the future. Would be happy is some people could read through it and point out and grammer/spelling mistakes you see. Thank you for your time and help. Hope you enjoy.
The Story of Gron, “The Wolf”
Gron grew up on a farm with his mother and father. His family was poor, but worked for what they had. At 10 Gron was already old enough to help his father with some of the outside work, cutting wood and gathering hay for the livestock. So gifted was Gron with strength and agility at a young age, he could easily climb trees faster and pick up logs much heavier than other children his age.
It was a stormy winter night and Gron was about to fall asleep as his father entered his room. His father would always tell him stories of adventures and of the forest before bed. Of all the tales Gron's father would tell him before he went to bed, he most of all enjoyed the ones about the forest animals. Specifically the mighty bears and the clever wolves were his favorite. After the story Gron fell asleep and the house went dark.
But this was not an ordinary night. In the dark of dusk, nothing could be heard but the crackle of lightning outside. Gron was suddenly woken by a particularly loud strike outside; there was a flickering light coming from Gron’s window. He quickly moved towards the unfamiliar light only to discover that the family barn was on fire! He ran to alert his father, but strangely on his way to the bedroom Gron noticed that the front door had swung wide open, but he had more important matters at hand than closing a door! As he barged into his parent's bedroom, he saw a dark figure hovering over their bed and the motionless bodies of his parents lying completely still. The dark figure suddenly moved towards him! The boy did the only thing he could think of and ran to the kitchen.
Gron picked up a cooking knife his family had used earlier that day and turned only to find the dark figure right in front of him. From that most vile and wretched voice he had ever heard, the figure said to him “What do you think you’re going to do with that boy?” Gron stabbed out at his attacker as he started to reach down for the knife, and managed to cut him on the cheek. But quickly the figure grabbed the knife from the boy and with a quick reply said “An eye for an eye then.” The figure held down Gron and slashed him from his forehead, barely missing the eye, down to his upper cheek causing blood to flow freely from the wound. Letting out a terrible scream of pain, Gron soon feel unconscious.
The next morning Gron awoke to sound of sloshing, or so he thought, and pain radiated from his face. When he opened his eye he saw a black dog standing above him licking his wound, but at a closer inspection it wasn’t a dog. It was a young wolf, maybe a few months old. When he sat up the young wolf moved back, and Gron felt another presence behind him. Before he turned around all he felt was breathing, a hot thick breath from a creature much large than this small wolf in front him, from closer look he saw the ground in front of him was darkened by the large creatures shadow…much large than any wolf he had heard of.
He slowly turned around to see a very large black snout in front of him. As he focused in past the snout; he realized it was a large brown bear! He scrambled backward on his heels and the young wolf started to hop around playfully. Somehow the bear did not seem threatening, even though Gron was convinced that the large creature could have easily caught him if he had tried to escape. The bear slowly lumbered toward the boy, and stopped right in front of him. Gron did the only thing that came to mind and reached out…slowly his hand went toward the brown bear. To Gron it felt like minutes he was reaching, all around him went quiet and still. To his surprise the bear allowed Gron to touch her and the bear rubbed into Gron. A powerful push he felt, but he also was comforted as he hugged into the bear. Again the young wolf hoped playfully around them, no doubt trying to gain his attention.
But as Gron started to enjoy this moment, he finally took in his surroundings. His home, the barn and everything his family had loved and cherished was burned to the ground. Nothing was left. The only things left of his world were the clothes he was wearing and the shoes on his feet. His dark thoughts were interupted as Gron heard footsteps moving away, he turned to see his new friends starting to walk out of the ruins of his home and into the clearing leading to the woods. Before he even realized his feet were moving, Gron followed.
As Gron chased the beasts, he stumbled over a root, or so he thought. As he groaned in pain and looked down he discovered an old tattered glaive. He remembered as he touched it that his family had used the weapon in place of a scythe to harvest wheat they then used as feed for the livestock. He picked up the worn blade even though it felt heavy and continued on his path to catch up to his friends.
He finally managed to catch the two. The bear glanced back and kept moving while the young wolf turned and cheerfully barked before following along. Gron jogged up beside the two and walked with them deeper into the forest.
Living in the forest for a human was harsh and through the years the boy learned to survive. For the first few months, he relied on the bear to find food such as the meat he cooked and the berries he gathered. He learned to use the pelts of the animals the bear killed to keep warm during the cold months. As the months passed Gron decided that he no longer wanted to rely upon his friends to survive. He trained relentlessly with the worn and heavy glaive. Cumbersome and unwieldy at first, Gron swore an oath that that would change.
Over the years he became stronger, faster, tougher and soon the glaive felt like an extension of his body. He then learned the myriad secrets of the forest. Hunting became easy with his wolfish friend and as Gron grew, so did he. On many days the duo would go hunting for fresh prey. Whether they would stealthily approach an unsuspecting herd of deer or stalk boar through the brush of the forest floor, they would provide for the pack together. Now that Gron could use his weapon skills for the essentials, he focused on expanding his abilities, for he wanted to flourish. He honed his sight, he trained with the bear to improve his athletic prowess, he learned to mimic the many sounds of the forest and eventually master the many survival techniques of the wild to point of gaining the ability for basic communication with wildlife of all forms. But most of all he learned to use deep rage he had for the dark figure, this man who had killed his family and burned his world to the ground, to fuel these abilities past their natural limit. For Gron knew that one day he would leave the forest, and kill him.
As Gron and the wolf became older, so did the bear. As for all living creatures, there always comes the final rest. For a few years the wolf and Gron, now a man, provided for the bear until she eventually passed. But before the old bear did, she blessed Gron with the gift of her spirit. Setting him on the path of a Totem Warrior. And so the story continued for the man and his wolfish friend. For years they lived within the forest surviving and hunting together. Eventually the wolf created a pack of his own. A family. Gron understood that his time to move on to new things had also come.
Now the time has come for him to adventure out of the forest. This is the beginning of the legend of Gron, “The Wolf”….
Notes for future events:
At level 6 when Gron receives his 2nd totem warrior feature, he will travel back to the forest and find his wolf friend and receive his spirit blessing.

| #5NoctaemMar 05, 2015 10:49:27 | You could also expand on what happened to the bear. She probably became a sort of mother figure for Gron as he grew up. Is she still in the woods? Did she die? |

For a few years the wolf and boy, now man, provided for the bear until she eventually passed. But before the old bear did, she blessed Gron with the gift of her spirit. Setting him on the path of a Totem Warrior. And so the story continues with just the wolf and the man now. For years they kept going on surviving and eventually the wolf started to make a family of his own, and a year later a pack. Gron saw this as his time to move on to new things also.
Now the time has come for him to adventure out of the forest. This is the beginning of the legend of Gron, “The Wolf”….
