Thorn Whip, cliff save?

Sorry if this has been answered. Couldn't see it.

Does an enemy get a save against being pulled off a cliff, tree branch, or battlements etc with a hit from Thorn Whip?

I cannot find a rule in PHB or DMG. May well have missed it though.

If it is left to my DM, what might be fair rules to consider.

Thanks in advance.

I dont think there are any saving throws against that RAW.

How I would handle it: Normal goons/random encounters monsters get no saves, they would just get thrown off the cliff/bridge (because its fun)

The big bad  guy and players would likely get some kind of saving throw, so they can hang at the edge of the cliff and get totally stressed out (because thats fun too)

I dunno what the DC would be, it would depend on what pushed/pulled them and what they are standing on/how the edge looks like.

Say a warlock with repelling blast could potentially push an opponent 40 feet (or 10, depending on if you think he fires four rays at the same time or not), that would likely be a pretty nasty DC to hold on to anything, if you are standing near the edge.

Id also allow fellow players in/adcacent to the path to try and grab the pushed/pulled character with a test. (naturally if the big bad guy got pushed/pulled, he might be stopped enough by hanging on to a lucky minion, thereby saving himself and sacrificing the minion to gravity)

Ah.... got it, thanks. There is indeed a fleeting statement. I'm guessing DM call then.

Would you deem a DC of Moderate to Hard reasonable if not on an icy or otherwise slippy edge?

hmm a follow up question.

Can you push/pull creatures vertically? Say an evil BBEG minion guard is walking around on the streets looking for troublemakers. Could you then as a druid, standing directly above said thug (on the edge of a roof or something) thon whip the guard and pull him up to you? the monk has readied his action the grab the guard when he gets pulled within reach.

Or if you find yourself directly beneath an opponent ( maybe you are trapped in a cage and the goblin is standing on top of the bars gloating) could you blast him upwards with repelling blast?

I would give them a Dexterity saving throw to see if they can grab on to something.

I'm referencing Reverse Gravity  - It reads "A creature can make a Dexterity saving thow to grab onto a fixed object it can reach, thus avoiding the fall." (pg. 272 PHB)

Albeit, this is "falling up," but it is still technically falling - and falling caused by a spell. The Dexterity save must  compete with the spellcasting DC of the creature whom cast the spell.

So yes, I would give them a Dexterity save based on the RAW of another spell, and I would make the DC of the save equal to the spellcasting DC of the caster. (Which makes sense - the better the caster, the harder it would be to resist the push).
