So my group is small, and the DM is encouraging, allowing anybody to have two characters if they want. Most are going to do one each, but I am liking the two thing. I want the two to have a bond of some sort before meeting the group. Our zero session (first meeting as a group) is soon. So here are some ideas I have been kicking around for flvaor sake or just mechincics. I am not a big min maxer so meh on that.

Human Bard and Human Barbarian. They look exactly alike but one is obviously huger than the other. They were separated at birth for some reason, and later reunited, or perhaps they are not twins but are related. They could be a two man (or woman) traveling entertainement thing. Such as "Joe and his dancing Barbarian, live tonight don't miss it at Bigsby Tavern". I could use the barbarian to cuase  a ruckus and use the bard to stealthily sneak around and steal something or whatever, since we do not have a rouge.

Human Bard and Human Rouge. Bard uses music and enchatment to distract guards or other folk, and the rouge slithers in to acheive whatever goal needs to be done.

Human Wizard and Human Barbarian. Wizard helped barbarian long time ago, saved his life or something, or vice versa. one owes other life debt. Or maybe wizard is snobby high born richie rich and the barbarian was given to her as comfortable slave for her 16th nameday. He does as she wishes. Like a man servant type.

What do you all think?

If you're looking for synergy between the two, I recommend Monk & Rogue. The Monk's ability to use Stunning Strike combined with the Stunned condition granting critical hits is sure to make a Rogue incredibly happy, since I do believe you get to roll double the damage dice on a crit... Including doubling sneak attack dice.

Bard + Rogue would be an exciting combo for me

Bard on stage as a medium/spirit talker(high deception/pursuasion), Rogue working the crowd taking objects of significance to read

You would have all the skills wrapped up, and Bard could find ways of getting his/her brother/partner Advanntage

Plus 2 very fun classes to play. Minor Illusion/Mage hand + Rogue = fun times

The Bard and Barbarian instantly made me think of the movie Twins, starring Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. That could make for some good in-game comedy, if you're familiar with the film.

Do you know what level the game will be going to? If it's going to be a higher level game, there are some multiclass combos that could have good synergy with each other.

Fighter 1/Warlock 3/Sorcerer X + Paladin 2/Warlock X gives you a pair of heavy armor casters who can handle both ranged and melee situations. The former I would go Fiend/Tome with the Warlock subclasses and lightning-based Draconic Sorcerer. This allows you to use Shocking Grasp as a melee option when the enemy gets too close to your Eldritch Blast artillery cannon. With the latter, Fiend/Blade is the way to go with the Warlock levels, as that build is the more melee focused character. You could possibly even grab a third level of Paladin to grab Oath of Devotion, as the Channel Divinity option of adding Cha to attack rolls could ensure better accuracy; although I would hold off on that level until you hit Warlock 12 to add Cha to damage first. Racewise, I'd go with Variant Humans for the above builds to start with a feat on each of them.

Now if you favor thematics over mechanics, I have the perfect racial choice for a pair of twins that'll make everyone scratch their heads. A half-elf couple gave birth to a pair of twins, except neither one was born a half-elf. Instead one was born pure Human and the other pure High Elf. For that pair, I'd make the Human a Moon Druid and the Elf an Eldritch Knight. Slap Sentinel on the Human and Mounted Combatant on the Elf, and you have a lean, mean mounted combat team. It'd also make combat simpler, as you would only have to worry about moving one character around the battlefield. You'd still have separate initiatives for each character, but you could actually use that to your advantage. If the Druid kills a target before the EK's turn, then have the EK use a ranged attack on the next enemy. Mounted Combatant + Sentinel guarantees that any melee attacking enemy will trigger the reaction attack of Sentinel, as Mounted Combatant allows you to redirect attacks to the rider.
