Two questions: Dueling and switching weapons.

I have two questions:

1. As a fighter you have the option to choose the Dueling fighting style:

When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gan a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.

Just wondering, does that apply when throwing thrown weapons? I mean it could come in handy for throwing spears, daggers, trident, javelins and so forth.

2. I am a little confused about the rules for seathing and drawing weapons. Especially when using a shield. If I for some reason were unable to reach my target, and I therefore wanna switch to my longbow and fire, while wearing a sword and shield, how long would take take? If I later on wanna change back to my sword and shield, how long does that take? Can I just drop the longbow, would that make switching weapons faster? Is it done faster if I just switch from say, longsword to a javelin just for the throwing?

Hope you got some answers for these questions. Thanks :-)

1. I can see there being an argument on the term "wielding," but I'd allow it. I can't really see +2 damage on a single attack being gamebreaking.

2. Drawing weapons, pulling out spell components, opening doors, etc are all covered under Flourish. In essence, it's a free interaction that you get during your turn. Running up to an enemy while drawing your sword, for example. Anything more "takes too long and requires an action."

Donning/doffing a Shield is a Bonus Action.

If I for some reason were unable to reach my target, and I therefore wanna switch to my longbow and fire, while wearing a sword and shield, how long would take take?

You get a single action per turn.

Attack Action

Dash

Use an Object

Cast a Spell

etc

Use an Object would allow you to draw your weapon, but you'd need to use the Attack Action to actually use it.

Something like the Fighter's Action Surge would allow you an extra action if attacking is a priority.

I have one final question. Is dropping a weapon, not sheathing it, a part of your action? Free action if you like. The rules seems to be quite vague abou it. I would think it does take less time to drop a weaopn rather than sheathing it.

Maybe I am just stuck in the mindset of 4e still.

Most DMs I have heard from would let you drop a weapon for 'free'.  So you could drop the sword for free, flourish the javelin, and throw it that turn.  But that is a ruling and not a rule.

Personally, I would also let you drop the shield as a free action, or a bonus action at most. But then it is on the ground, not 'put away'.

I haven't experienced any repercussions allowing people to drop things for free, but I wouldn't build a character that relied on it.

There was one specific situation where an enemy managed to get away because the players decided to leave behind their ranged weapons. I had one situation where a person walked into an ambush without his shield due to chasing, too.

I am asking if droping a weapon is "free" cause it would be useful. I mean. I could walk around the dungeon with shield and javelin. When combat start I have the option of throwing my javelin if I can`t reach the target, or simply drop the javelin and start attacking with my battleaxe, as drawing it is part of the action.

It's DM discretion, there's no official rule on if dropping an item requires an action or a "use an object" or not. In my games, it's free, because seriously all it takes is releasing your grip, gravity does the rest of the work. That seems to be the most common ruling, but check with your DM and see how they feel about it.
