| #1Talos_DragonAug 29, 2014 7:36:17 | I did a search for Vampiric Touch in the Q&A thread and got MAgic Card game posts so I am asking here.. .. Can the spell only be used bare handed or can I use a wapon to deliver it? . Can my Warlock combine it with Pact Weapon and Life Drinker. . What is the effect of a MONK/WARLOCK using LIFEDRINKER and VAMPIRIC TOUCH with Bare Handed attacks / Flurry of Blows...

You can refluff your casting of the spell in whatever way you want, but you can't attack with your weapon or use any ability that benefits from a weapon attack while casting the spell. There are some exceptions, for example Eldritch Knight can attack and cast a cantrip in the same turn. |

Vampiric touch is a action to use and does what that spell definition say. If you have special feature that can apply to spell (wizard necromancer ability that if you kill a target with a necromany spell you gain 3 time that spell level in HP for example or sorcerer metamagic ability) will apply, but you cannot have MECHANICALLY an other action going at the same time (even the EK cannot have 2 action, the EK simply transform the attack with the weapon into a bonus action).
If in the fluff you want to cast the spell while jumping and twirling on your square, and reciting your ABC backward on a handstance and attacking with your pact weapon that you hold with your toes carving a W in the oppoennet cloths, go for it, as long as it's only fluff and do not impact mechanically the game: it won't affect your chance to hit, nor the damage done, nor the number of action/bonus action/reaction or move action that you can make. If you want to receive a bonus (or penalty) for doing so then it would be a houserule between you and your DM not supported by the PHB or ini AL play.
Same as the flurry of blow, you get 1 attack as an action and 2 hit on a bonus action. If your a fist master then you hit 3 time with your fist, if your a elbow master then you hit 3 time with your elbow, if your a kick master you hit 3 time with your kicks, if your a generalist then you hit once with your kick, once with your elbow, once with your fist, but in all 3 case you will do 3 attack with the same hit modifier and the same damage. Your kick do not have a longer reach then your headbuts for example. I don't have my book with me but I believe (I might be wrong) that to in order to use FLurry of blow you need to have made an attack first, a spell even with an attack role is NOT an attack so you cannot cast vampiric touch then flurry of blow for an additional 2 hit (and specialy not with vampiric touch still active receiving 3 cast of vampiric touch in a single round)
Until they bring the spellsword out you cannot deliver touch spell trought a weapon attack (in the play test we had arcane archer who could deliver a spell with an arrow but it's not in the PHB. The Find familiar spell let you deliver melee spell with your familiar and only with your familiar, your pact weapon is not a familiar. |
