Waffling on a Few Character Details

So, as the title states, I've been waffling on a couple of character details and wanted to get some other people's opinions for this character I'm building for Adventurer's League.

I'm currently building a Rock Gnome Rogue with the Sage Background which is slightly more flavorful, being more of an intelligent archeologist-tinkerer type of person so my highest stats are DEX (at 14) and INT (at 16) and they're most likely going to be Trap Checking.

First detail I was debating on was whether to take the Thief Archetype or Arcane Trickster Archetype. I initially was going to take the Arcane Trickster Archetype since I liked the flavor and I could make it work  with their backstory. But the Thief Archetype also fit very well with the kind of character I was going for  with the improved climbing ability and Use Magic Device.

The other thing was my stats and feats.

My current array looks like this:

10 STR

14 DEX

13 CON (+1 for Rock Gnome; Total 14)

14 INT (+2 for Gnome; Total 16)

12 WIS

10 CHA

The array works for most things and has decent bonuses to things I would need. Though, I'm wondering if it would be more beneficial to take a hit in some stats; it mostly boils down to hitting CON and/or CHA. I plan to play the character as a bit more socially awkward to justify a CHA hit. If anyone has a different stat array, I'm all ears.

As for feats, there's a number I was looking at which included: Observant, Dungeon Delver, Alert and Lucky and wanted other people's opinons on these feats and some of the pros and cons of them from someone else's perspective. These technically are more for the flavor though I do like some of the out-of-combat benefits.

For strictly combat benefits, I was looking at Skulker, Sharpshooter and/or Crossbow Expert. Since I wasn't trying to min-max, it's not as big of a deal but suggestions would be nice.

if it were me...

i'd go arcane trickster for this concept

i'd try to get 16 in dex

of the feats, none of them really stand out at a glance, though sharpshooter is really powerful. you might look at spell sniper or mobility. i dont have my PHB handy though to be more specific, sorry.

Personally I'd go 8 Str, 15 Dex, 13 Con, 13 Int, 14, 9 Cha. For a grand total of 8 Str, 15 Dex, 14 Con, 15 Int, 9 Cha. Perfect stats for an Arcane Trickster.

Honestly though, I shuddered when I read the part about RPing to justify a hit to charisma. You're stats have nothing to do with how you RP. You want to be a hyper chatty guy? You can with a Cha of 3. All the stats tell you is how good you are at something.

Whoops, yes that was supposed to be a 14 Wis.

I must admit I also tend to have personalities match my stats but I do it the other way round. I have about 50 different builds fully fleshed out mechanically. Then when I make a character I choose what I want to do, which limits the selection, followed by how I want to do it. From there I look at what I've got and build the personality from there.

That's neat! I might try that next time!
