So my previous character died in our campaign. We were level one and the DM didn't think we were that weak xD. And I have Rerolled my character and Choose Drow this time (Yes I understand the penalties and I think they will be fun to play with)

I have started as a Warlock (Fiend Patron) and I think I will go Blade pact although I could be convinced otherwise, my background once again is criminal

my stats in order with racial mods are

13 Strength

20 Dexterity

18 Constitution

16 Intelligence

14 Wisdom

19 Charisma

No I did not cheat my entire party was with me watching when I got these rolls. It is Freaking Fantastic! (They are soooooo Jealous, and the DM has threatened to kill me char just for those rolls xD  The party is level 2 now and I am trying to decide where I am going to go with my character, Any advice?

I am thinking of Multiclassing Either Fighter, or Rogue. Which would be a better choice?

Minor thing. I'd switch the constitution and charisma stat. That way you can pick up +2 Cha and Resilient (Con).

If you haven't, check the guide listed on this forum. Great advice in there.

Sick stats. Be sure to let your team mates get a chance to shine as well!

My charisma is a 19 because of the +1 as a Drow they were both 18......

Paladin (Oathbreaker especially) > Fighter, unless you plan on going 11 levels in Fighter, and even the it's questionable. As an end goal, Oathbreaker 8/Blade'lock 12 is friggin amazing. 2 attacks, +2*cha to each attack and you can Smite with Short Rest spell slots. How to get there... Paladin is more front-loaded. Of course that requires Oathbreaker to be on the table.

With those stats, you can m/c anything you want except Barbarian.

Do NOT - under any circumstances - allow your DM to use the (loaded?) dice you used to roll those stats.

Well I have decided to do somthing unorthodox, I am gonna be a Warlock, Rogue. My party needs a rogue and I have always enjoyed playing rogueish characters so yeah... Any tips for me?

I do not claim to be the ultimate expert on character optimization, but if I were to do a rogue/warlock I would go pact of the blade, with armor of Shadows and Devil's Sight Invocations. I would have darkness as one of my warlock spells. As has been pointed out in more than one thread on these boards, Devil's Sight and the darkness spell can have problems. But a rogue will sometimes be operating either independently of or at a distance from the rest of the group. In which case the combination could be valuable for somebody operating more or less solo.

Go five levels in Warlock, take Thirsting Blade, Devil's Sight and Mask of Many Faces. Alternatively, take the Archfey as your patron, pick up all the above, but also pick up two more levels to get Greater Invisibilty, which is awesome.

One of my favourite tactics-to-be is, while invisible, action: attack, bonus: hide, and hopefully opportunity: attack.

Ok guys tell me if you think this works.

Fighter 11 ( Battlemaster or Eldritch Knight havent decided) / Rogue 6 (Assassin or Arcane Trickster) / Warlock 3 ( Pact of the blade)

This would give me 4 attacks ( 3 from the 11 fighter levels + Thirsting blade) With Charisma modifier bonus from Lifedrinker ( People have been saying loopholes hot to get Thirsting blade with 5 total level, the swame loophole applies for Lifedrinker)  The Damage would be 4d8 + Dex mod + char mod

With the 6 levels in rogue I would get expertise II in some skills which I think will include Stealth and Perception. 3d6 extra damage when I use stealth, and Uncanny dodge

3 levels in warlock would get me some simple spells, Invocations and a summonable pact weapon. Plus Dark One's Blessing is so pretty decent with the extra HP per level. Yes I know I wouldn't get to much HP at higher levels with the blessing but whatever works right?

My DM encouraged me to take all the classes I was intrested in. This is the result, What do you guys think? Also what subclasses would I take for Fighter and Rogue if I did this? Should I even try this build?

Thirsting Blade does not stack with Extra Attacks.

Quickest way to permanent +CHA is Paladin 7 (Oathbreaker). The Extra Attack wont stack with the Fighter's but then neither did Thirsting Blade.

My Dm will not let me be an Oathbreaker without killing off my current character. So sense my grand scheme has failed what do you all think I should do for my character?

It may be smart for me to describe my character and his personality, as well as what I want my character to do.

My character is a witty drow who does not know much about the surface world but he does know two things that are can help him learn more. Knowledge and Money. My character is Neutral and will do good and evil things as he sees fit to the situation. I do know have much for his personality yet he is still being developed.

What I want my character to do is 1. be a good party face.  2. Do decent damage and not be at the risk of dying if a monster farts at me. And do overall have a bag of tricks to screw over my enemies with. I am totally up for using tactics and dirty tricks to win fights and would actually enjoy it more if I had to. But I still want to be able to hold my own when my tricks are up

The Classes that I do like the look of are Fighter,Warlock,Rogue,Monk, and Paladin (Although Oathbreaker will not be possible for this specific character so Rule Pally out, My character is not Righteous  or overly religious, Which is the thing keeping me away from the Paladin class. I am too sarcastic and mercenary to be able to do that well. or at all   )

I find Fighter 11/Sorcerer 9 to be a nice combo to play. 5 levels in Fighter, 6 in Sorcerer, back to Fighter until 11 then finish Sorcerer. Going Eldritch Knight is optional, but if you do try and take spells that don't rely on Int.

Stat wise, Dex and Cha would be your main stats, with Con being your teteriary.

Not sure how well you can substitute Warlock for Sorcerer, but a Book Warlock who picks up Shillelagh can use a staff and have the same casting and attack stat.

Perhaps go Fighter 1/Archfey Pact of Blade 7/Eldritch Knight 7. You'll be able to cast Greater Invisibility on yourself, making you awesome. Consider Fighter 1/Warlock 7/Rogue 2/Fighter 7/Fighter 11 for your end goal. By level 9 you're basically always hidden, by level 16 you're casting Eldritch Blast and attacking all whilst invisible and your capstone becomes a third attack.

Hmm, then I'd suggest getting out asap. Nab the features you want then abandon ship.

Warlock 5/Sorcerer 5/Rogue 10 is quite interesting. Thirsting Blade and Haste give you two attacks, both with Sneak Attack. Sorcerer gives you a juicy AC, metamagic and some spell slots to cast not-Haste with. Rogue is obvious, and you get reliable talent as your capstone.

Well my latest session has ended. I think to find out what I should do would help if the group was told to you guys

The entire part is level 2

I am a Fiend Patron Warlock

I than have

  • A Dwarf Fighter who plans on grabbing Barbarian later
  • The Wizard was killed by Kenku so now he is rolling a Gnome Rogue although he will be taking Wizard later on (Couple Levels)

Those are our main party but we also have a couple players who missed the current session who are

  • a Variant Human Monk
  • Half-Elf Sorc

I do know know that these to plan on rolling later

The Sorc is intresting and a few levels to grab some dragon scales would be cool  But I also want a good bit of levels in warlock, I like Dark Ones Blessing and I may as well make it work. I want at least 12 levels in warlock for the Char mod damage on my attacks.

While I do like the idea of having Alter Self I am willing to pass it up if other options are to good.

I am not sure what I want to grab besides Warlock. Sorc seems really cool, But so does rogue.

I have also been doing a TON of sneaking in the current campaign so Rogue's Sneak attack is fantastic for me. Also Expertise in Stealth and Perception would be great.

What do you guys think, Should I post a general Concept for my character for better builds?

I want a char that is versitle. Using spells and weapons more or less equally on the battlefield. I want him to be stealthy. Most powerful when out of sight, But still be able to find viciously when backed into a corner. I want a character who is willing to make deals, but only if he can back out of it later. This character I want to be good at illusion, and tricks. He needs to be decent with a blade. This characters biggest thing though is Survival. If he can survive he can thrive.

That was my char concept. Not good but hopefully you get the pic

Waiting till level 12 just for +cha is... well. Why can't you be an Oathbreaker without killing off your character?

Be a Devotion Paladin, as a way for your character to try and change thier nature. It backfires, you end up doing evil things and break basically every tenant of the Oath.

Sure some may see it as munchkinning to get Oathbreaker, but don't look at it that way: It's a vast source of character development, full of trials and tribulation, complete with the stress of trying to break away from your Patron only to fail.

If you're Fey, Warlock 7, otherwise Warlock 5. You get Mask of Many Faces, Devil's Sight (+Darkness, useful for more than just combat), and most importantly, Thirsting Blade.

As for the Rogue, personally I'd go Assassin.

I'd go with what aspect of play you like the most. Like sneaking around and want to do it better? Then Rogue is an obvious choice. Have you been practicing the blade with your Dwarf compatriot during downtime? Then Fighter might be for you. Heck, even learning some training from the Monk might be fun.

Ok so my group has had a session today and it was fantastic. My character is the one who goes off ahead, scouting and sneaking, Even more so than our rogue. I really want to tell you guys the story of what was happened today xD  . So my DM put 7 kenku in a room, He later revealed we were supposed to be captured but I foiled that plan ;)

So I have Mask of many faces, and Misty visions as my invocations as a warlock. It got stupid. I would turned into a kenku ran into the room they were in. Leaped away from the door, Cast Silent image to make 3 "Adventurers" rush into the cave and start fighting the kenku. My DM was making me roll Int checks to see if the Illusions dodged the attacks "I said they were pulling the matrix xD" I succeded 3 times with a DC check of 15. I cast Flaming hands twice killing 6 of the kenku and the Dwarf and gnome when they finally caught up to me killed the 7th Kenku who was running from the fight (He was the leader)

This was a lot of freaking fun. The use that we did of Silent Image may be illegal I do not know, but we had a lot of fun with it

Edit: So 2 levels in paladin is like considering an oath correct? and Divine Strike is like 5d8 extra damage right? So could my character just consider taking the oath but find out it was not right for him? Aka 2 pally levels and stop there?  Grabing Fighting style isnt bad.... Also being able to remove poisen is handy. Could Warlock 12, Paladin 2 Rogue 6 work well?

sneak attacks could be awesome lol 2d8 + 10, + 5d8, + 3d6

Also how much better is the Fey Patron. How bad was my choice to have a Fiend patron? When I was picking Patrons I read that Fiend is the better one for playing a hexblade.

Edit 2: while my character would not take an Oath, my character later does plan on backstabbing his patron (Long story short, my DM is gonna allow me to try to kill me Patron and absorb his power. Yeah I know that you cannot do this in normal DnD but we are house ruling it so we can have an epic side quest :P  Could that count as "Breaking my oath" to my patron?

Ok so the Sorc in our party wants to reroll her character. She is now going to be playing a Drow Paladin. when she joins the party though she will be breaking her vow to Lolth. So the DM is gonna let her be an Oathbreaker. My character is probably gonna hang out with hers, (Our characters usually do) So I am gonna hopefully be allowed to pick up Oathbreaker as her teaching me the skills. Although still Warlock 15, Paladin 2, Rogue 3 seems pretty good
