| #1EchamilMar 09, 2015 20:42:56 | I am interested in learning about some of the characters that people from the board, play. It can be current characters or memorable ones from the past games. I am just curious what everyone plays.
One of my current characters;
Ah-Kashka 2nd-Level Female Dragonborn Monk
Ah-Kashka is something different for me. I have never sat down and played a monk, but so far- it's been pretty fun. I've been watching a lot of Martial Arts videos on youtubes, seeing the different forms of various fighting styles and it's been quite awesome in fact.
She fights with a Guandao, using the Glaive statistics. It's cool that technically she isn't proficient in it, which I've tied into her story about how she's training. I started the campaign with nothing more than the Glaive andthe simple Tunic & Breeches combo.
I'm actually interested how she will progress in the story. |
| #2MatyrMar 10, 2015 1:44:23 | Alvin York Level 2 Human Bow Fighter
Might switch him out to be rogue to start off with, even though that doesn't really mesh well with my idea for him.
Alvin is a good-ole boy from the hills, where people are folk and the huntin's good. Alvin is a tiny guy, short of stature and never been the sturdiest in mind or body. But he can hunt damn near anything and knows the hills well. After a lot of strange happenings made staying not the best of plans he decided to mosey on out to be with the city folk and get some of the rest of the world behind his eyes. Things were going pretty well and he was starting to think that maybe one of the dwarves he adventures with could make good folk when they happened across a bandana. The others thought it would be great fun to see what the bandana would do for Alvin and the answer startled everyone, including Alvin. The thing made him smart. Not just kinda learned, but real real smart. When he pulls that thing over his head and looks into the band he can see the amassed knowledge of hundreds of everyday people, all the learning they have gathered over the centuries as they wore the thing (Headband of Intellect). This is all very new to Alvin and he isn't sure if he is keeping the blasted thing, but maybe he can try being learned for a bit and see if any of it sticks.
Swerki Loshi Level 18 Dragonborn Dragonsorcerer (Specifically Sorcerer/Fighter/Ninefold Master)
I've actually played this guy from 1-18 and from 5-30. The current incarnation is 18, probably never going to be played again if I make it to 21.
Swerki is has an obsession with his mouth (he usually has a metal pipe in that sparks as he talks), a thick russian accent and a love for all things new and interesting. He uses physical labor as a way to think and will often work for free at docks or other similar places when he has to mull something over. He also collects coins and strings them to his armor by boring holes into the center of the ones that don't have holes in them and threading a thick band of leather through them. His friends call him "Sparky", a name he never objects to but doesn't truly enjoy. He can't stand people who are officious and want everything done by the book as it stifles creativity and freedom of thought. He doesn't worship a god in particular, but if he did it would likely be a god of freedom and change, possibly a god of merchantile and coin if he gets a special mintage out of worship.
Drahgo Burningblade Level 20 Dragonborn Paladin|Fighter/Champion of Order
Trust nobody. Trusting people leads to problems. People rely on you. People fail you. The only way you can afford to give out even the slightest bit of something that could be called your word is to make yourself invulnerable to all the misgivings of the world and that takes hard work and a devout mind. Bahamut will bless my efforts to bring light to a world of darkness and suffering. If I can keep some of these sinners that travel at my side, doing their best to muddle through without proper convictions, alive and in the fight maybe we will stand a chance against the rising tides of darkness that close in when the lights come crashing down.
As you might guess Drahgo is paranoid and devouted to the cause. Afraid of the dark he shines his armor to a luster and keeps a fire burning in the night and in his heart at all times. Drahgo is a creature of purpose who is consumed by a need to fight the demons within by hunting down and slaying the demons without.
Morgoth Level 18 Half-Orc Barbarian|Fighter/Avenger/Draeven Marauder
Morgoth is not Half-Orc. He is half-human. A brutal creature from the lands beyond and follower of the god of his forfathers (Bane) Morgoth hunts down those that work with Orcs and other vile spawn that fester on the edges of the civilized world. He is constantly in awe by what other more "learned" people have accomplished. The length of their books, the sizes of their buildings and the complexity of a society that doesn't have to struggle tooth and nail to survive. Morgoth wears a hide battle harness made from the cured skins of a hundred orcs that he and Kristine (his weapon) have slain over the years. He carries a symbol of the god Bane on his chest and will happily debate with others why his following of the god does not make him inherently Evil. Bane is just the only one who has the understanding of the kind of discipline that is needed to eek out a living on the edge of things. His people survived on the teachings of bane. Discipline, Order, Protect the man next to you and kill all those who oppose you.
Mia Level 11 Halfling Shielddancer Rogue / Warlock / Evermeet Warlock
Mia is probably the character I most enjoy playing at the moment. She is tiny and passes for a human child as often as possible. She grew up in a little town that was torn apart by war. During the war she was forced to be a messenger, carrying messages implanted in her mind with sorcery, but she was captured and tortured. A sympathetic jailor snuck her out one night when he could take no more of her sobs and gave her one of his dogs, a creature large enough for her to ride. Recently her dog perished and her already bleak outlook on life took a much more deadly turn. She whispered the names of those responsible on a dark altar where she pledged some part of her soul to the hearltess fae for the power to hunt and kill her enemies. Now she has names and power and time. Names and time.
Mia was based off of what I kinda want Arya Stark to become in Game of Thrones. The most iconic thing about playing the character is that she only uses names of those she wants to kill and will only refer to herself as "a girl". Mia isn't actually her name but simply MIA. She knows and remembers her name and it is her most closely guarded secret. |
| #3Regin_VargtassMar 10, 2015 1:49:55 | I am in the process of starting playing in a new campaign, and I have trouble choosing between two lvl 1 characters.
The first is a first level fighter, variant human, tavern brawler with a noble background. He's a bit of the black sheep, a jock type, willing to go the full nine yards for his team - but wants to make himself independent from his family. He normally fights unarmed, but sports a shield and a whip for good measure. My plan is to multiclass to bard (college of lore) and advance to battlemaster fighter.
The second idea is a single class rock gnome warlock with a Mechanus patron, Varakhut Bis. She has an alchemist background (guild artisan) and plans to take the pact of the chain. She carries around her masterpiece, a full kit of parts for a tiny rogue quadron, that will become her familiar at third level. Her magic and pact powers takes a tinkering flavour, using mechanics, aöchemy and clockwork devices. She is very keen to understand things and people, but tends to be a bit miserly or greedy. Although her patron is axiomatically Lawful, she believes in all peoples right to pursue their own goals an live their own lives.
i think I lean towards the warlock ... |
| #4AaronOfBarbariaMar 10, 2015 3:51:55 | The D&D characters I've played are very few and far between, as is to be expected of someone who loves to DM and is good enough at it to have managed to make my entire group convinced that there is no point in them even trying to DM because I've already got awesome campaigns lined up and on deck (their words, not mine - and every few years someone does try to throw me a bone and DM a campaign, but it rarely lasts more than a few sessions).
As such, I only have the characters I am most looking forward to finding a chance to play again because I didn't get my fill of them when originally able to play them. Here they are with their campaign setting details made more general, since using proper names of countries would convey no meaning:
Garret the Black is the eldest son of a nobleman of moderate importance. He has passed off his obligations as eldest to his willing younger brother and fled noble life to fulfill his life-long dream of becoming a legendary hero - though his belief that the ends justify the means, and his penchant for driving fear into his enemies rather than trying to inspire his charges, have resulted in his legend thus far being that of a monster in human guise that has incidentally done great things (example: if he killed 100 marauding orcs and saved a town in the process, the story being told is one of terror and brutality - the focus on that he assaulted the camp under cover of night and slaughter the orcs to the last, not on the lives saved in his doing so), and he is absolutely alright with that being the case. (Mechanically, the character is a human fighter with a focus on versatility and cunning, slightly favoring wielding two weapons but being prepared to fight in any configuration.)
A favorite quote: "Nice try, thief, you almost had my coin purse without me noticing. I could use a thief like you, so here's a choice: you work for me now and live, or you don't."
Kreslin No-Name is a young wizard with a list of academic achievements, most beginning with "youngest to....", that has a bit of a superiority complex (in fact, it is that complex which has resulted in him taking on the epithet "No-Name" as a jab at the numerous mages that feel the need to aggrandize themselves with important sounding titles, and the ironic insistance that he shall never do the same). He grew up in an academy of magic, fostered by one of the professors who found him abandoned nearby, and even took to teaching immediately following his graduation from the academy... but resigned at the request of his students. He is coarse, brash, and impatient - but in his heart believes that there is no point in him having power at all if he does not use it for the sake of bettering the world at large. (Mechanically, the character is a human evoker that also favors abjuration and transmutation, but typically skips any spell which might be described as "subtle".)
A favorite quote: "Yes, yes, good. Fine. Shut up already. I am here to save you and your city of idiots, so assist me if you can manage it, but at the very least get out of my way and let me do what I do."
I'd also like to play a wacky old man wizard who is kindhearted and helpful, but is more apt to introduce you to his cat familiar (with some important-sounding name like Archimedes or the like) and come off like a friendly, but lonely old man rather than seem to actually be a wizard involved in particularly important things, but haven't really put much of a character together beyond those details.

| #5iserithMar 10, 2015 6:52:14 | Butch Uprise, 4th-level human fighter folk hero. Defensive fighting style with ax and shield (and iron pot on his head) but more likely to improvise attacks than use his weapons. His wife, baby girl, and his right eye were taken by the Cult of the Dragon and he aims to get them back.
Chuck Dagger, 1st-level human rogue criminal. Recently sold into slavery by his old partner-in-crime, Poncho Cloak (together they were known as Poncho & Cloak), Chuck is trying to find his way out of this predicament and serve up a frosty dish of revenge. |
| #6manduckMar 10, 2015 9:49:18 | I'll gladly chime in on a character discussion. Seeing some really interesting ideas from the other posters. So I'll share a few. Typically, I prefer to play some type of warrior/melee character. I love being in the thick of things and always had a fascination with knights. I like the armored up warriors who hold the line. I also like idealistic characters who struggle with their ideals out in the adventuring world.
Most memorable:
D&D 4e Eberron Campaign Arranis Titov of Karnath, human great weapon fighter Arranis was a giant of a man and one of Karnath's greatest generals. During The Great War, he lead soldiers to victory after victory. Then Breland entered the war and Karnath started taking heavy losses. Arranis was still able to find victory on the battlefield, even while other leaders fell. So he was a very valuable soldier in the war. Then Karnath turned to necromancy and raising the dead to fight the war. Arranis saw this as a disgraceful way to treat warriors who had given their lives for Karnath. Arranis held dear the values of honor and hard work embedded in Karnathi culture and now his nation was falling apart. Necromancy became so common that Arranis feared for the safety of his family. So he tried to take his family and defect to Breland. He was discoverd and arrested with his family. They all were to be hung for treason. Some of Arranis' loyal soldiers were able to break him out of prison and help him escape, but they could not help his family in time. So Arranis swore vengeance on the King of Karnath for the death of his family. He fled to Breland and worked for them until he was able to return to Karnath and exact his revenge.
The idea behind Arranis was to take a revenge tale and have the character grow to realize that there are bigger things in the world than his pain. He had to struggle to rise and become a hero when the world needed him, always having to choose between revenge and a greater good. He found his revenge on the king to be hollow though it uncovered the cause of necromancy in Karnath. Arranis is the only character that I ever played for a full campaign to it's conclusion. I played him from level 1-30. He eventually found the cause of necromancy in Karnath and was able to destroy it. He then became the new king, outlawed necromancy, and became one of Karnath's greatest rulers. During his adventuring career, Arranis was a father, husband, soldier, general, war hero, war criminal, exile, mercenary, torturer, spy, and king. It was a pretty great character arc.
Current character:
D&D 5e Forgotten Realms campaign Sir Rolen Mallory, half-elf paladin of Helm Rolen is an orphan adopted by a knight of Helm. His adopted father had a vision one night of a destroyed caravaan on the road. His father went to the site of his dream and found a burned and ruined caravaan with a baby hidden among some of the wreckage. He took the child home and adopted him. Rolen grew up and followed in his father's footsteps, joining the military in Cormyr. Rolen worked his way into The Purple Dragons and became a more active member of the church of Helm. Rolen was given the task of helping to protect a small trade town called Loudwater, which is where our campaign began. Rolen is the captain of the town guard and has a reputation as a fair and kind man. Rolen likes to socialize with the townsfolk and is friendly, if a bit formal sometimes. Though when it comes to something that threatens the town, he's all business and stops at nothing to eliminate the threat. People feel safe with him around.
I've only just started playing Rolen, so we'll see where he goes. So far I'm really enjoying it though. After playing a hard-nosed warrior dead set on revenge, a friendly character is a bit welcome. |
| #7BohoMojamboMar 10, 2015 12:45:01 | Batu Level 4 Human Barbarian
Young, daring leader of a war band. Betrayed by a rival clan, his war band was slaughtered in an ambush. In the midst of the slaughter, just as the hordes of enemies overtook him, he said a prayer to the great Skybeast before losing consciousness. He awoke, bloody and naked in a field littered with bodies, a necklace of animal teeth and feathers clutched in his hand. Now he manifests the totemic powers of beasts through a battle rage, but is slowly losing his humanity to the cold, animalistic impulses inside of him.

| #8Tarob76Mar 10, 2015 18:57:03 | Bjork Level 3 Half-Orc Fighter
Recently discharged from the militia he searved under his fathers command, Bjork vows to one day regain his fathers love and resect. Haunted by the mistakes of his past he now see's that it takes more than the might of one warrior to overcome an obsticle. He maintains his savage fighting style and intimidating battlefield presence but now uses the training from his father to better utilize the battlefield like a chess match rather than a bar fight. Bjork will often bath in the blood of his fallen eniemies to show his desier for battle. |
| #9Matau99Mar 10, 2015 19:18:52 | Synil "Sparky" "Shiny" Sparkleshine. Level 8 NG Forest Gnome Wizard (Illusionist)
A half-crazy but kindhearted young scholar, Sparky is obsessed with dragons and their gods. He's morally opposed to killing, but he sees no problem in causing fear in the hearts of evildoers with his illusions. He will utterly refuse to kill or assist in the killing of a dragon, beacuse he loves them so much. He's got a backup spellbook in his brain, because he's got a photographic memory (Keen Mind feat). He's the author of several books on dragons, and he's still writing one while out adventuring! (HotDQ). Thanks to his skill at illusions and mind control, he's beaten the odds and, with the help of his team, actually drove off that blue dragon at the start of the adventure, as well as the entire army (through deception, naturally, because he's no fighter.) He's only got two damaging spells, but he hasn't needed any more, and he doesn't think he will. |
