#1 ShadewalkerEnvy Sep 08, 2015 1:00:10	So, finally my 3warlock/6wizard shapeshifting thiefling is almost done. Except for one minor detail. My DM gave me Wing of Flying (awesome, thanks DM) that triggers with a command word and is canceled after an hour or with that same word. But what word to use? My char is this outcast thiefling that found the great old one when hitting rock bottom. And started shapeshifting into different people to: become a wizard apprentice, the regent of a city and 3 surrounding small towns, an orc shaman, and much, much more. So I could've learned the word in any kind of place. What word would you choose and what would be the small backstory of the word? Extra info: the word changes my cloak into wings.
#2 Razintarr Sep 08, 2015 3:50:46	You must have picked up the Wings while disguised as one of the persona you named. They don't sounds like an item that a regent would have, nor particularly suited for an orc shaman. Maybe the wizard he was an apprentice to had them, either he made them or he had them to study. And when your character left him, he nicked a few items, like a spellbook and the Wings.   Maybe you had to steal the Wings to get out of his tower in the first place. It could have been on a rock in the middle of a turbulent ocean, with the wizards coming and going with teleport spells. But with your character stuck there more like a slave than as an apprentice. Finding the Wings wasn't the problem, but finding the command word was. If the wizards made the item, the command word could be the name of someone he cared about. If he found the item, then the command word is something significant for the intended user. Maybe a paladin that summoned the great angelic wings with an "Archangel Melchior, lend me your wings", or they were the shadowy wings of a master thief with a "no wall high enough to keep me out".
#3 Macv12 Sep 08, 2015 7:21:03	I'd probably go with "later."   So when you're trapped in an alley with seemingly nowhere to go, you can wipe the false panic off your face as you smirk and say "later!" to deploy wings and shoot upward. Or salute your friends and say "later!" every time you take to the skies during combat.   Plus the possibility of them opening accidentally during conversations.   "Behold" is another good one.   If you want to be slightly more stealthy, you could go with "Huh? What's that feeling in my back?!" so people think you were cursed and look for the culprit, instead of knowing you have wings you can call at any time. And you can just not call them again in their presence and pretend it was a one-time thing.   Not sure if this will help.

(Reply to #2) ShadewalkerEnvy	The wizard part was lingering in my mind. The way filled it in. Subliminal! I think I'll be going for an interpretation of that story. My background isn't too specific about how I left the wizard. The only thing it says is that he stopped teaching me since necromancy was my preference of all magic schools. The result of him keeping me as a slave so I can't cause the world any harm for what he thinks is a 'mindcorrupting school of magic' is just perfect. I bow graciously to thee.
