| #1zagora_01Sep 25, 2014 8:03:23 | So,
I'm playikng Lost Minds of Phandalin right now with a Elven Wizard. I was going to multi-class fighter and use a rapier; however, we found the longsword +1 Talon in the Redbrand hideout. No one wanted it! Well my wizard was proficient, so he took it. In the next battle he felled 3 guards with the blade while the fighter with a greataxe barely killed one. Now he thinks he's a true warrior wizard.
I want to keep this character pure. I'll be bringing him over to Adventure league after we are done with this mod. He only has a 10 strength. If I keep the longsword and don't improve his strength he will be about +4 behind everyone else on to hit and damage. Will that make him useless? What do the numbers say? What if I bumped is strength to 14? What do those numbers say?
I'm trying to decide if I should dump the sword, re-write the character before 5th (I don't want to do that), or invest two valuable feats into strength.
I'd like you're opinons.
Thanks |

Any wizard using melee weapons will definatly be useless at higher levels, regardless of it's Str. At best it's useful for an oppertunity attack. Polymorph can make wizards melee capable, but don't use weapons that way.
That said, a re-write and/or multiclass as an eldrich knight would be right up your ally. Paladin and ranger are other possibilities, since they get alot of weapon boosting spells. |

| #6SorxoresSep 25, 2014 12:29:05 | screw the longsword, and go find a finess weapon (ask if you can melt the magical sword and reforge it into a magical rapier? 10 is way too low and the investement of 2 feat to bring it to 14 will be a waste.
if you are playing AL here are the stat my EK got: 16str, 8 dex(heavy armor), 16con, 14 Int, 12 wis, 8Cha. and I'm using my spell mainly to buff myself (shield, haste etc...) and for big AoE spell to destroy large group of weak ennemies.
When I'll be EK5, I'll start taking some Wizard level. I'll grab fighter 5 before multiclass, to get my 2 melee attack, then start wizard (abjuration to gain a bonus shield or maybe diviner to control some dice roll) and I plan on finishing EK 12/Wizard8 |
