Which forms combines with Unarmored Defense for a greater AC?
Which forms have attacks that would work with Sneak Attack (ranged, I'm guessing)? |

| #3ZHDarkstarFeb 25, 2015 18:39:56 | Unarmored Defense could be used in beast form if 10+Dex+Con is higher than the natural armor AC. However, going Barb for UAD makes you rather MAD, requiring 13s in Str/Dex/Con/Wis with your build. It also requires you to take forms with good Dex/Con to make the most of it. If you went Monk instead of Barb, your UAD would vary only based on your form's Dex, as your Wis would carry over to beast mode. You'd lose out on Rage, but gain a bonus action attack you can make while unmorphed and become less MAD.
Unfortunately, your Sneak Attack is only useable on ranged beast attacks and weapon attacks while unmorphed. The current limitations on what qualifies as a finesse weapon sucks for Monks and Moon Druids who dip Rogue. This feels like an oversight on the part of the devs, as the question of Monk unarmed strikes and natural weapons as finesse weapons has existed as long as Rogues have been around Monks and Druids. Personally, I would houserule the first bullet of Martial Arts as treating unarmed strikes and monk weapons as having the finesse property. It clears up Sneak Attack ambiguity and saves on word count. |
