Wild Shape Questions

Wild shape has a lot of text and it seems like there's some room for clarification. Which category of weapon do natural weapons fit into? The PHB says that there are only two weapon categories, simple and martial (pg. 146). If there are only two categories, and a character is proficient in both, would the character be able to use his or her proficiency instead of those of the wild shape form?

@Tempest_Stormwind. The chain example is interesting, but I'm not entirely convinced. The improvised weapon rules seem to cover the chain (PHB, p. 147).The alter self spell seems to suggest that natural weapons are unarmed strikes (PHB, p. 211).

I would say no. Armour profencies, I would think are referring to humanoid type armour.
