Can you maintain an animal form while asleep? I think this will be a GM call, and personally I'd allow it, but I thought I'd ask all of you.

Unfortunately, by RAW, you can't. Falling unconscious is one of the conditions that ends wild shape.

EDIT: Maybe you can argue that falling asleep is not the same as being unconscious? Or at least that trancing elves aren't unconscious? That's probably a huge stretch, though.

Sleeping is NOT unconscious (the spell sleep is unconscious)

Unconscious you cannot wake up because of loud noise, the sleeping spell you need to receive damage to wake up. a regular sleeping stance you are still conscious, since if there is a noise loud enought you will wake up, faint noise might infiltrate your dream and still wake you up with a faint knowledge of what is happening.

The Trance statre of elf says that you remian conscious so there is no question there.

*Puts DM Hat on* I'd allow a druid to sleep in wild shape form, especially if it was for RP flavour or purpose. If the duration of the wild shape expired while they were asleep, I'd say they'd change back, but other than that I have no issue with it.

On the other hand, if it seemed like the player was trying to do it to work some kind of rules cheese, then no. Stuff like this is always subject to GM discretion, but if the intent is to create a cool or fun moment in the game, I don't see why not.
