| #1ChimerasameFeb 06, 2015 6:49:15 | I have a 5th level sorc, and I've been thinking about the pros and cons of dipping into Wizard for 1-2 levels.
Cons: - Delays acquisition of new sorcerer spells / higher level sorcerer spells - Slightly delays sorcerer class features incl. increases of sorcery points and ability scores/feats - Makes 20th level sorcerer class feature inaccessible
Pros: - Does not delay increases of spell level of spell slots (allowing sorc to cast known spells at higher levels readily) - Allows ritual spellcasting, arguably can put any castable spell level of ritual-able spell into wizard spellbook even if beyond first level, and cast it as a ritual - At 2nd, evoker Sculpt Spells power allows easier combat casting (e.g. can drop a Fireball without worrying so much about harming allies) - Gives more cantrips, 1st-level spells, (e.g. can cast Mage Armor as wizard, freeing up the known-spell slot on the sorc list)
From my perspective, the pros outweigh the cons. Curious what folks think. |

Also, strict RAW, with only two levels of Wizard, you would only be able to scribe level 1 spells into your Spellbook. You could take the Ritual Caster feat, though, and that would eliminate that restriction. |

| (Reply to #14)Ganymede425 | Adding spells to one's spellbook is merely an adjunct of knowing and preparing spells, and is governed by the same rules. Such is made clear in the examples on page 164 of the PHB.
"If you are a ranger 4/wizard 3, for example, you know three 1st-level ranger spells based on your levels in the ranger class. As 3rd-level wizard, you know three wizard cantrips, and your spellbook contains ten wizard spells, two of which (the two you gained when you reached 3rd level as a wizard) can be 2nd-level spells."
"For example, if you are the aforementioned ranger 4/wizard 3 ... you don’t know any 3rd-level spells, nor do you know any 2nd-level ranger spells."
These quotes make it clear that the rules treat the spells you are able to record into your spellbook the same as spells known/prepared. It refers to spells recorded into your spellbook synonousmy with spells known, and treats them as mechanically the same in its wizard/ranger example. As such, if your multiclass wizard has spells in his spellbook that a single class wizard of the same level wouldn't be able to have, you did it wrong. |

If for some reason (don'T know why by maybe?) you prepare fireball from yoru spellbook AND learn with your sorcerer level, then you have to say you are using your "wizard" fireball, which mean if you have something affecting only your sorcerer spell it won't work, (but from my knowledge sorcerer is multiclass friendly and doesn't specify sorcerer on there feature but I might be wrong)
Undrhil, 13 give you +1, so you might have +1 or +2 wisdom bonus (like I said in my original post) and between maximizing your cha and getting a decent Dex and Constitution you might not have enought point to buy the extra 2 point to improve 13 to 14. |
