I keep reading it, but I am having trouble how you start out with a spellbook containing 6 1st level spells. The example used is that at 3rd level with a 16 in Intelligence, you can have 6 prepared spells between 1st and 2nd level.
It also says that at each level, you learn 2 new spells from any level of spells, as long as you have a spell slot available for it.
The best I can understand it, it is saying;

Wizards have a spellbook, it's the feature that makes them probably the most versatile casters in the game. At level 1, you have 6 spell in that spellbook. You add two spells to that spellbook everytime you level up, and anytime you find a spell written down, id est a spell or another wizard's spell book, you can copy it into your spellbook for 2 hours of time and 50 gp per level of spell.
From the spells in your spellbook, you can prepare a certain number of them, INT mod + Wizard level, to be used until you prepare a new set of spells at the end of a long rest. Each spell takes one minute per spell level to prepare.
Lastly, you have your spell slots. The number of spell slots you can cast from are determined by your wizard level, and any other potential caster levels if you multi-class. So, at first level, you have 2 level 1 spell slots. At level 3, you have 3 level 1 slots. At level 3, you have 4 level one slots and 2 level 2 slots... et cetera.
The point of all of this is, you got the gist of the idea. This is just how you break down wizard spell casting.
