#1 zombiegleemax Feb 27, 2006 22:16:13	Does anyone remember this? I've been getting nostalgic about it for a long time now. I'm looking for something updated (since I can't find this game ANYWHERE) that's like it. A board game with a good fantasy type feel to it... someone keeps mentioning 'Heroscape' but I'm afraid it'll be too kiddy for me. Any suggestions?
#2 zombiegleemax Feb 27, 2006 22:24:20	Oh I remember many great board games based around D&D, and some bad ones too. I had the original Dungeon game and then the one that came out later. I had the "Save the Dungeon Master" game based on the cartoon. I had the Dragonlance board game where you flew dragons around and fought flying citadels. I had Heroquest, designed from Warhammer. That was a good game. Unfortunately I haven't seen much to compare in recent years. It seems the miniatures and card games took their places. Perhaps it is time that board games had their come back though. Ken
#3 bluehero Feb 27, 2006 22:52:25	As for Heroscape, I've played that game and I happen to like it very much. People tend to think its a "kiddy" game generally because its sold at Toys R Us. The game is actually very fun, with solid gameplay and some awesome terrain tiles. The cool minis and terrain tiles are worth the price alone, but the game itself is extremely enjoyable, and I highly reccomend it.

Just don't let your opponent use the angels and the demons together in the first battle you fight. Allowing him to ignore the high ground your Airborne Elite is on and rip them apart...

There's several ways to play it in the rule book and even room to make up your own version with what's given to you. The version I have is Fellowship of the Ring (FotR); it's a smaller map than the 'trilogy' set. There is an expansion for FotR called Gondor & Mordor Expansion Set that adds onto the FotR board. The expansion also adds comes with a mini 2player game called Seige of Minas Tirith. The trilogy edition is NOT an addon to the first version, but it covers the entire map, and it does NOT come with the Siege of Minas Tirith. I like it better than original Risk because it actually forces progression of the game instead of people waiting for hours to build up an army befor making any seriouse moves. Stop by your local 'game shop' like Games by James or something. I've seen all kinds of fantasy board games. Even a ones sporting D&D on the front. One cought my eye that was based on World of Warcraft. Drop in and browse around; I bring my son along and pretend its for his benifit

#10 stardrake Feb 28, 2006 22:29:58	If you're looking for fantasy board games, check Fantasy Flight Games. They publish a number of fantasy board games, and I've heard good things about them. Worth checking out, anyway. (They also publish some well-regarded D20 supplements, including the dark MIDNIGHT setting)

#12 Legendarius Mar 14, 2006 0:14:02	I have the Dragonlance board game and enjoy it but haven't played in a while. It can be played with 2-6 players. The objective is to fly your dragons to the tower in the center to get the dragonlance and get out and return to your home area near the board's perimeter. There are magic items and orbiting fortresses around the tower. Some randomness and some strategy. Takes a couple of hours to play usually. 3 of the dragons are good, 3 are evil. Wow, I never saw or heard of an expansion for the first release of the Lord of the Rings: Risk game from the time Fellowship came out. I just thought they decided to change and release the full trilogy edition at a later time. Not sure why a full map version couldn't have been released early. It's not like they didn't know the plot of the remaining films at that point or have the reference material. Anyone play Descent yet, that big sweet looking, $80 US, fantasy board game from Fantasy Flight (?) yet? I've barely resisted buying it. Might have to do so soon. L
