For all of the years I have played D&D, I have never had this happen before, but there it was. Right before my very eyes, 2 players rolled up characters with 3 18's in their stat list. I never had this happen in 1e, or 2e, or 3e, or 3.5e, or 4e, or BECMI, or Gygax/Arneson. NEVER!!! Yet there it was. Created for a 2e game were a fighter with a barbarian background (who promptly stuck those juicy 18s into STR, DEX, and CON) and a fighter with a dancing background (who went for STR, DEX, and CHA). Their other stats were pretty normal, mostly in the average range, with nothing below 9. Straight 3d6 rolls. They even used my own dice, so I know they weren't loaded. AND THESE ARE KIDS WHO ARE PLAYING! They haven't even been playing but a couple of months tops! Talk about beginner's luck! While they were smiling innocently at their good fortune, I put my face in my hands and groaned while their father and uncle stared gape-jawed at the dice. Yeah, this is gonna be a challenge to DM for, because the other three players have decently acceptable stats while the Wonder Twins just found Lady Luck's cookie jar! Anybody else have to deal with such abnormal stat rolls?
