Hey does anybody know where I can find 2E stats for Kender?

I have the old AD&D Dragonlance Adventures book that has the 1E stats in it. I was just wanting to know if there were any updated stats for 2E rules.

Yes, I admit I am in a rather evil-minded frame of mind lately. I am thinking of unleashing the horror that is the curious little kender on my group.

Second edition had a dragonlance boxed set and players handbook so you could check those. But, honestly, I just used the 1e Dragonlance Adventures Hardback for my 2e games (minus the max level of 18) as it was the best DL product ever printed.

Though I cant actually help you in your search. I must agree that there's nothing quite so blood- curdling as one of the pony tailed, hoopak wielding little bastards.

I have NO clue if any of this is official 2e, or player-updated from 1e, but this is what I found:

Kender are small enough to resemble human children, though they are more heavily muscled. Males are typically 3'7" tall and weigh 75lbs; females are slightly smaller. Adult Kender are rarely more than four feet tall and seldom weigh more than 100lbs.

Kender typically have sandy blond, copper-red or even red-orange hair colors. Hair styles are usually long, with many varieties of braids and ponytails being popular. Often bits of colorful material such as bird feathers, ribbons, or flowers are carefully woven into the hair as well. Kender are fair-skinned but tan quickly, becoming nut-brown by midsummer. Their eyes are variously pale blue, sea green, olive, light brown, and hazel.

Kender are distinctive for their pointed ears that give them a faintly elven look. They are bright-eyed, and their facial expressions ar quite intense. No one seems to look as happy as a joyful Kender or as miserable as a crying one.Angry Kender using taunts and insults can be shockingly vulgar, and can look quite devilish for a few moments. This intensity of emotion can be quite infectious.

Kender have been called wizened because of the fine network of lines that appears on their faces about age 40. These minute wrinkles give the kender a curious appearance when seen close up, though such lines are considered attractive by Kender of all clans.

Kender have a wide vocal range, from deep and husky to high-pitched and squeaky. Older Kender tend to have deeper voices, but they still maintain wide pitch ranges and can often perform remarkable sound imitations. When excited, Kender tend to speak very quickly and ramble at the same time, making it hard to follow what they are trying to say.

-1 Strength
+2 Dexterity
+15%: Hide in Shadows
+10%: Move Silently, Escape Bonds
+5%: Pick Pockets, Open Locks, F/R Traps, Detect Noise, Detect Magic, Tunneling
-5%: Read Languages
-15%: Climb Walls

Movement Rate = 6

Aw crap. I was about to pull out my copy of the Gnomes and Halflings Handbook (or is it Complete Guide? I always forget), but I realized that I packed it up yesterday. The stats for Kender are in there, so someone else who has the book can look them up (I'll have to wait till Sunday or something when I finish moving).

Are you quite sure? Check again. I recall buying the book entirely on the grounds that it had Kender in it. I believe the book classifies them as a Halfling subrace.

They are a Indeginous form of "halfling like" beings on Krynn.

Just like there are the Original Movies then Pirated ones and there are real software and then copied/duplicated ones, when the "gods" or whatever couldn't trade, borrow, bartered, or steal the desired beings they needed to populate their world they just make their own version of the creatures or convert the "stock" on hand to make a "knock-off"

I.E. maybe the Kender that are "halfling like" was made from the "gods" of Krynn mixing Elf and Gnome "stock" cause they couldn't get any Halflings.

I thought Kender were only self-propelled trail rations for the party Minotaur.

Straight from my Gnomes & Halflings HLP file:

Ability Minimum Maximum
Strength 6 16
Dexterity 8 19
Constitution 10 18
Intelligence 6 18
Wisdom 3 16
Charisma 6 18
Ability Score Adjustments: +2 to Dexterity (to a maximum of 19); -1 to Strength.
Languages: Kender, Krynn Common, and any other(s) allowed by Intelligence.
Infravision: Yes (30')
Special Features: Kender who are not thieves have a base 5% chance to perform any thieving skill except Read Languages (no chance) and Climb Walls (40% chance). Dexterity modifiers do apply, but these abilities never increase as the Kender goes up in level.
Kender are totally immune to the effects of both magical and nonmagical fear, whether caused by monsters like the mummy or lich or by spells such as scare and symbol of fear.

The Taunt: Kender are adept at the art of taunting an enemy until that foe loses all ability for rational thought or restraint and is goaded into an uncontrolled attack. If the victim can understand the Kender's speech, he, she, or it must make a saving throw versus spells (Wisdom bonuses apply). If it fails, the victim will attack the Kender wildly for 1d10 rounds, suffering a -2 penalty to all attack rolls and a +2 penalty to Armor Class.

Kenders taste like "Pork" just like Gnomes, Halflings, Dwarfs, and Humans do :D

I find it funny that every Dragonlance campaign I have ever played in always has minotaurs hating kender, why is that?

Umm....probably the same reasons everyone else hates kender? Why should minotaurs hate them any less?

Hey Everybody,

Thanks for the info! It has really helped me out alot.

I do have one question though.

I cannot find the racial abilities for the thievi...err..handling aspects of the kender in the Gnomes & Halfling Handbook or the Dragonlance Adventures Hardback. I have scene some posted on various websites that are quite desirable I.E. higher than most other races. Are these from the Tales of the Lance Box Set?

I would like someone to back me up on this one so that my DM doesn't accuse me of being a power hungry, maniacal, munchkin.

It is not in either of those books. Look in the boxed set, Tales of the Lance which brought Dragonlance into 2e.
