| #2Capn_CharlieMay 14, 2004 5:09:38 | Oh they didn't just ask for it, they begged for it. I was there. And he gave them what they asked for. But much like wishes, be careful what you ask for. Anyhow, you know this iwll be either closed right quick, or moved right? |
| #3zombiegleemaxMay 14, 2004 6:20:55 | i can back Doxxie's claim up. he started with the Basic Set. Drexlorn, the problem you have with Doxxie, tho, is he plays all editions. |
| #4incenjucarMay 14, 2004 6:44:09 | Oh bloody hell, why would Dox fake being an Old Edition user? It's silly enough that blackprinceofmuncie accused -me- of not playing 2e, but Dox has rather little to gain from being false, especially since he's a high-up. Also, what in blazes does this flipping-off of a hard-working WizO have to do with Out of Print material? If you had a gripe, speak to the source, or customer service. This post is merely spam, and is just driving that edition gap wedge all the deeper. Like we need more animosity between two groups that should be swapping stories. Is it asking too much to have a permanent mod here and have the forum fully and only dedicated to OOP D&D/AD&D ? On these boards, it is very reasonable to expect not to be attacked, or to at least have the attackers dealt with as soon as possible. It is not reasonable, however, to expect 3rd edition players to completely avoid this area and never mention it. Many people come to this board to obtain information for 3rd edition games. This doesn't hurt you in the least. It does not disrupt your own threads. My tabaxi thread on this very board is, gasp, because I want to see if there's any information from the older editions that I can use for 3rd edition. There's no tabaxi info in 3e. This is the only place to get out outside of 3rd party books. So where the heck am I supposed to go for OOP information in regards to using it in 3e if not on the OOP BOARDS? A huge number of people on the 3e boards have never even -heard- of Tabaxi, and very few will actually have any information on them. I'd likely get more questions than answers, for crying out loud. There is a board for D&D Isolationists. There's probably a dozen of them. If you want to pretend 3e doesn't exist, go -there-. I sure as heck won't follow. |
| #5rian_lightbladeMay 14, 2004 13:24:35 | Here!! Here!! I agree with everything Incenjucar said!!! There should be no exclusionary boards here at the WoTC message boards save for the Mature Boards which should be for, obivious reasons, posters aged 17 and older. If you don't like the way the boards here are run you are perfectly free to go somewhere else. |
| #6blackprinceofmuncieMay 14, 2004 13:55:46 | Originally posted by Incenjucar Just to be clear, I never accused you of not playing 2e, I just said you didn't know what you were talking about when you addressed the issues of 1) OD&D being a "rip-off" of Chainmail 2) The difference in power levels being a simple matter of increasing the toughness of challenges and 3) 2e introducing UFOs to the game. If it sounded like I was calling into question your assertion that you had played pre-3e D&D I apologize. My intention wasn't to call you a liar. My intention was to say you were ignorant of the facts. |
| #7incenjucarMay 14, 2004 16:29:27 | Well what did I get wrong, exactly? Chainmail is what D&D is based on. I was kidding when I said it, but it is, technically, true, just like D&D Miniatures is based on D&D. Loosely, certainly, but tis true. I don't see how you can't toughen the challenges rather easily. It might be -easier- to anticipate a character's power in older editions since they're so mechanically similar, but there's no overwhelming set up outside of some of the junk rules in the Miniatures Handbook. DMs, however, are as clever as ever. Heck, I had to use kid gloves not to insta-kill the wizard after the power-hungry bugger let a mimic envelop his arm so as to gain the 'key item'. All it took was having the mimic disguise itself as a statue holding a talking skull instead of a silly treasure chest. The word "introduced" doesn't have to mean "first". There was a UFO full of robots and junk that landed in your D&D setting via a module in 2e. I remember it quite clearly as something I wouldn't use if someone gave it to me for free. But it was there. |

| #9zombiegleemaxMay 15, 2004 0:11:29 | Ok, seeing the general consensus, I'm clearly losing my time here. So, let's say I never posted anything and delete this thread. I'm out of here. |
