#1 naderion Mar 14, 2008 6:53:02	As probably many other people, I've always been quite unhappy with certain types of armor. Most importantly Chain Mail and Splint Mail were garbage. You were actually better of wearing other types of armor which were cheaper unless you intend to use no skills or have an extremely low dexterity score. Also half-plate armor seems undesireable to me, because with just Dex12, banded mail is better in every aspect at only half the cost. So I redesigned these 3 types of armor and also breastplates, because it's a very good type of armor which created a bump in the relatively smoth progressions for armor traits I've made. The 4 types of light armor remain unchanged, though Studded Leather armor is called Reinforced Leather Armor, because studded leather wouldn't work like describe and has never really been used historicaly. Hide armor and scale armor also remain unchanged. The next in line is Chain Armor. Essentially it is chain mail, but it allos a maximum dexterity bonus to AC of +3 and only weight 35 lb. Because of this, the price is slightly higher at 200 gp. Next is a new type of armor I've temporarily named [Light Plate Armor]. It has an AC-bonus of +6 (compared to +5 of breastplate), allows for a maximum Dex-bonus to AC of +2 (+3), has a armor check penalty of -5 (-4), spell failure of 25% (25%), and a weight of 35 lb. (30 lb.). Price is 500 gp. It's slightly heavier than a breastplate, but offers better protection. Twice as expensive as banded mail, but it's medium armor. Splint mail is removed and replaced by a type of armor named [Heavy Brigandine], though I don't like this name. The AC-Bonus is +5 (+6), max. Dex-bonus to AC is +2 (+0), armor check penalty is -5 (-7), spell failure 30% (40%), and weight 40 lb. (45 lb.), for a price of 150 gp. Except for AC-Bonus it's better in every regard compared to splint mail and with good Dexterity, you even archive a better final AC. Still no type of armor any warrior has on his christmas wish list, but it is usable if you can't afford anything better at the moment. And I also improved the Half-Plate, named "Plate Armor". It has it's maximum Dex-bonus to AC raised to +1, and armor check penalty lowerd to -6 (each by one point), and is slightl lighter than full plate at 45 lb. Price remains unchanged at 600 gp. I also intend to use it as the best armor money can buy. Full-plate is found almost exclusively in the personal hoards of dwarven kings. I think it's fairly balanced but I mostly have a hard time coming up with names for them which would be somehow consistent with historical armor and fit into an early middle-age theme. Somebody with ideas for the "Light Plate Armor" or "Heavy brigandine"?
