#1 tuberov Apr 06, 2008 8:30:20	In the Unearthed Arcana, it states the major bloodline levels (and all bloodline levels for that matter) must be taken by a certain character level. Does this mean that it must be taken before the ECL of that level? Example, I have a fighter 2/major vampire bloodline 1/wizard 2 for a character, taken in order. I gain another level, so does that mean that I have to take another level of bloodline at next level (ECL of 6) or do I wait and not count the first bloodline level towards my character level?

Bloodlines count as character levels, so your fighter 2/bloodline 1/wizard 2 character is in all ways a 5th level character; you just effectively get BAB +0, saves +0, 0 skill points, etc., at the bloodline level. Your next level you will be a 6th level character, with character level 6 and ECL 6, and have to take the second bloodline level then.
#3 lord-bear Apr 18, 2008 9:42:12	my dm (being the awesome guy that he is) decided that bloodlines worked in a similar way to level adjustment and that when you took a bloodline you paid the exp from your level up to get the bloodline level and went back down to the base exp for the level you were + any extra exp you may have had, which is a system that i like, tbh i prefer it to regular creature templates but there you go, if you use my dm's version then technically its not a level, so you would still be level 4. also, always take bloodline levels sooner rather then later, either way you go its better to get "nothing" at lower levels for your exp when the amount of exp potentially lost is low, personally, and this is from experience here, i did fighter 1, trol bloodline 2 and then carried on going up levels, since that lost me les exp then if i'd paid at level 6 and 12 i think wouldve been the levels
