Anyway, in planning my classic D & D campaign, I ran across one tiny problem I need an answer to. It is my understanding that religions in classic D & D must be organized around the worship of one of the Immortals. Nowhere in GAZ 1 does it mention which immortal the Church of Karameikos reveres. The church of Traladara has three immortals listed, but the Karameikans don't have one. Any help would be appreciated.

This question was only answered later, in a Dragon Magazine issue (don't remember which, though). The Immortals worshipped by the Church of Karameikos are Asterius, Vanya, Valerias, Ilsundal and Kagyar.
Note, though, that some religions in the Known World are not based around the worship of Immortals -- e.g., the People's Temple of Ierendi is a considered a "philosophical" religion.

FWIW, I don't consider that a "must". I either devise my own religions/pantheons or just use ancient real-world ones for my classic D&D.

For Classic D&D, this is true, but for the Gazetteer Setting (ie Mystara/The Known World) Immortals is probably the way to go.
Wrath of the Immortals gives you a good overview of the most commonly worshipped Mystaran Immortals.

(Although, truth be told, I'd still likely ignore the immortals stuff if I were using Mystara. Indeed, it could be argued I'm doing exactly that in the campaign I'm currently running.)
IMC, for Thyatians in Karameikos, the Church of Karameikos centers around the following Immortals:

In my Mystara, Asterius is not a Sun-God. Ixion is the Sun Immortal. Asterius is interested in merchants and thieves.

Achelos is the same as Chardastes (or at least that's the interpretation given on the Vaults). It's mentioned in one of the B adventures as a Traladaran Immortal worshipped by the CoK.
Myself, I find this pretty odd, and have removed him (also, Bruce didn't mention him in the list of CoK Immortals). IMC, Chardastes appears as a minor Immortal in western Karameikos.

He is listed as a CoK immortal in the B module where he was first introduced. Ofcourse, that was before the CoK had been developed in any way. I place him with the Church of Traladara, but this has been rejected by others.
IMC he is considered Petra's Messenger and has found some acceptance by both CoT and CoK clergy. He is still a minor Immortal though. His nemesis is Leptar, patron of the Iron Ring slavers.

Hey, I never said I was a canonical Mystaran authority. ;) I look over the GAZ's, modules, etc. and chuck out what seems like a bad fit for my game. Then I take what I like, stick it in a Cuisinart and hit "puree." After that, I edit the bejeezus out of it. :D
IMC, there is no WOTI, no Blackmoor, and no Radiance. Also, most demihuman populations are about 1/3 of what they have them listed at in the GAZ's (humans dominate the world).
Duke Stefan still rules the GDK, Bargle and the Black Baron are still causing trouble, Threshold is still "Adventurer Central"; but a lot of other things are mildly to severely tweaked.
YMMV, of course.
