I finally scored a Cthulu/Melnibonean Dieties and Demigods!!!! MINT!!!! PERFECT!!! Unbelievable......went to my local comic shop, the owner who I met today is 2 years older than me (37)...we got to talking....he pulled a box out and low and behold, like the holy grail, pulls out a pristine DD!!! I was bummed b/c he said he was gonna list it, I told him he could get like 90-100 bux...he went on EbAY and said I was wrong (I was right, they only show completed items for a month or 2)...He offered it to me for $55...said I had $40 and it's cool if not...he said ok!!!! DUDE!!!!! Sweet!! Dude!!! Sweet!!!! Dude!!!

also got a very good 3rd Ed. Monster Man. $6!!!! red spine and panels, Aeceum states a rare version....yea!!!

He also has a '79 DM screen in 2 parts....

smug rant over.........

You lucky I search for a couple of years for one, and when I found one I ended up shelling out $40 for it, and it was only in fair condition.

Who say's the God's are fair.

Yeah, I couldn't and still can't believe my eyes at how (near) mint this book is, the corners are flawless, the flaws that are there aren't even worth the mention.......it doesn't even open all the way!!

Amazing, I was resigned to never getting this.....my neighbor had this in '80...It was really weird seeing the Melnibone pix after 24 years.....I remember my character got killed by Elric and Stormbringer back then, I still remember his name (which is psycho) Perseus Sadr

Not trying to burst any bubbles, because that IS a good price compared to what I've seen it sold for. That said, the rarity of the Cthulu D&DG is blown way out of proportion:

Contrary to rumor, the first two printings of Deities & Demigods were never recalled or "banned". They're far more common than most people seem to believe; an estimated 10,000 - 15,000 copies of these prints are still in circulation. However, due to the hype of the removed pantheons, a First or Second printing currently fetches more than any other AD&D hardcover manual (though recent prices have been falling).

From http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/SetPages/Deities.html

The Acaeum says the auction value on a mint version is about $55, and shows it going on ebay (regardless of condition) for $37. The first number is their estimate and the second is based on real sales.

All this I know, my excitement comes from the condition of the book, I've had many ops to buy them for less on Ebay, but not in the best condition....I just never thought I'd own a near flawless copy that's all

Yeah, but you had all those stats from D,DG,&H, so it's not like you needed it. The way I see it, you're out $10 bucks in 1980 dollars, which is what in 2004 dollars? Interest rate... inflation... denominator... carry the one... ohhhh... about $3 million. Of course my calculations could be wrong. ;)

One thing you have to remember, it's a sellers market out there right now. I remember when you couldn't give away the Bloodstone series, now look at the price.
