Desert of Desolation: I3 Pharoah player's map

Apr 28, 2004 21:03:06 The first of the this series, I3 Pharoah, has a player's map of a pyramid with a bunch of runes on it. I can't for the life of me find any translation of the runes in the module. Can anyone help me out?

A lot of the old modules were like that. I emailed Tracy Hickman about the I3-5 Desert of Desolation series and never did get a response, but feel free to try. Apparently he self-published the module(s?) before selling them to TSR. I have never seen one (well, except on the internet) but it appears to have more info (or at least pages).

Apr 30, 2004 4:11:18 It's decodable. Some of the symbols represent more than one letter (like the Ph in "pharaoh") or could mean one of two letters (like o/u). Here's what I've got so far:

May 01, 2004 3:20:59 Okay, I've been thinking about this all day. Even tried using an online crossword puzzle dictionary. I think I've got a couple of mistakes, but I've corrected them:

The TOMB Of AMUNRE _ _ _

ENTRANS Of TOMB

TEMPOL Of AMUNRE

SPRINg Of The PhARAOHS

PALAS RUINS

ALL
MAPS
BY
S_S

So that's most of it. I don't know what those three symbols are at the end of the title. And if we knew who drew the maps, we'd be able to figure out the symbol in the last word.

The spelling mistakes threw me for a while....
If you look closely, you'll notice I've translated the words as TOMB instead of TUMB, which is how a strict translation would state them. :D But then, who would want to be buried in a tumb?

May 01, 2004 11:31:16 I kind of figured it out. In the I3-5 compilation module, the runes are slightly different but there is a key for it.

Do you know who the artist was? I only have part of the initials figured out: S_S. What's the rune that sort of looks like a lower-case "d?"

May 01, 2004 23:36:14 I didn't find the key until after I started asking about it. Someone in a newsgroup actually told me about it. The key isn't in the Pharoah module, it's in the I3-5 one.
