Opaque. translucent, metal, etc.......I was looking at my translucent dice, they look kind of cheesy.....the d4's are small and cheap looking......I guess I like the opaque ones a little heavier and bigger esp. the d20's....... if anyone has some suggestions on some cool dice let me know.....

The best dice you can get for durability and old-school feel are Gamescience. Sharp-edged, hard construction. Plus they make a set of light blue uninked dice that look like the ones that came with the original D&D sets.

For D10's, I always use a dark and a light one. The dark one is the 10's, while the light one is the 10's.

May 23, 2005 14:57:00 I got a full set of dice that are hollow and filled with grey powder. Maybe grafite or something. Pretty sweet. Ive had them for years. Then I got my jumbo dice, all about the size of pool balls.

May 25, 2005 2:26:53 I prefer what used to be called "Hi-impact" dice. Fairly light dice with very sharp edges. All the dice I see nowadays have the edges polished and rounded off.

May 26, 2005 1:05:45 I go with white dice with black numbers, exclusively. Most of them are opaque, with a few semi-transparent and one set of the crystal shaped oblong dice that are a sort of swirled, milky color. Don't really have a preference for any manufacturer over another since I buy most of them loose in the bins at the game store and don't know the brand anyway.

Well, see, that's the problem - I don't remember the brand and it has been over a decade since I've seen any available.

The closest I have been able to find is the occasional set of "raw" dice - which is basically unfinished dice with the numbers not painted in and all the casting burrs intact. I believe the Game Science dice DungeonDelver mentioned fall into this category.

But my staples have been a double set of black with red numerals, which I picked up during a Shadowrun phase. They've been solid, and they seem to roll high...

Jun 13, 2005 20:02:54 I missed getting a big honk'n metal d20 from Crystal Caste at GenCon last year. I spotted it in my first pass thru the dealers room, when I went by again a few hours later they were sold out.

I won't make that mistake again this year.

I've got the amethyst, opal, obsidian, and clear quartz from this site... I plan on eventually picking up one set of each of the dwarven stones (there were 20, last time I looked), because I am insane.

I've got one. Excellent for rolling percentile dice. I use the outer die as the tens and the inner as the ones.
