Hello all. I have a question. Does anyone remember a boxed set for Dragonlance, it was black and had a picture of a black dragon on the front? I was wondering if anyone remembers this, knows the name, actually owns one and where I might get one.

Thanks,
Blix

Time of the Dragon (TSR1050) -
It details a new continent: Taladas, northeast of Ansalon. Think: Imperial Minotaurs, a Mongol-like culture and swamps in the south. In the center is a huge area of lava, the continent has been striken by a comet as well.
It contains two books, two maps (I think), and a bunch of cards with pictures of the various cultures and infos on the back, as it's been in fashion to print them this way, back then.

That's as much as I can still remember. I don't own it anymore.

So it's called Time of the Dragons. Cool. I'll have to look for that. Thanks so much!

You're welcome! :-)

The box actually contains 2 books, 4 maps, and 24 cards.
That may be helpful in determining the quality of the box. I bet some have lost cards, or have no idea what the box should contain and then you'll get a flawed product.

I own this boxset and enjoyed it very much when I used it. It has some interesteing campaign ideas.

You say you still own it? And do you currently use it or DM from it?

I use it occasionally, I have a little dragonlance campaign that I run when we can all get together, which is about once a month. It is very different than your "typical" idea of Dragonlance, my players do enjoy it.

I've looked for that thing on Ebay and can't find it. And we all know, if you can't find it on Ebay, you can't find it! Haha. A friend once had it and has no idea what happened to it. Oh well. Guess I'll work on reading "Tales of the Lance" box set.

Hm, I typed in Time of the Dragon and found two boxes and one entry for the two books only. Don't buy the two books, instead go for the whole boxes!
One was $1 with 5 days left, the other cost about 40⁈ if you bought it immediately.

FYI, apart from the box there are modules which take place in Taladas:
9278 DLR1 Otherlands
9344 DLR2 Taladas: The Minotaurs
9275 DLA1 Dragon Dawn
9285 DLA2 Dragon Knight
9294 DLA3 Dragon's Rest
9314 DLS1 New Beginnings

DLR1 does not really feature Taladas but the isles that connect Ansalon to Taladas. Good if you want to do a cross-continent adventure.
DLA1-3 are modules connected to a campaign, featuring Dragons of course.
DLS1 is a beginner's adventure in Taladas

I must say that I quite liked the history of Taladas. The dragons there are a bit different from the Ansalonian, since most did not join Takhisis in the War of the Lance. Also, Sargonnas plays a much greater role here because of the minotaurs.
Unfortunately all the info predates Dragons of Summer Flame and I don't know if there ever was an update for SAGA or if they'll do an update for 3e. Come to think of it, Dragon #315 will feature Taladas, IIRC.

We have a used copy of TSR1050 "Time of the Dragon" that's complete except for the maps... Check out our 2nd Ed. Dragonlance page at hitpointe.com if interested.
