After looking at Drizzt's statistics, I noticed that he has 5 attacks per round, I was wondering how that was possible?
He is lvl 16 so there he got 2 attacks + he is dual-wielding, giving him an additional attack, where did he get the other 2?

I am curious as well. With a little research I can only assume that he has a Ranger kit similar to the Justifier, which allows specialization in one weapon, thereby granting him attacks per round of 7/2. But, that would be only be 3 attacks in round one and 4 in round two. Maybe someone has a better answer.

Maybe, but I think the description would have said that he is specialized in some kind of weapon.
He is a "Follower of Mielikki", I dunno if thats a kit, but it dosen't sound so...

Depends on how you use the rules. Prior to official rulings of the D&D game with regards to two weapon fighting ONLY giving one extra attack, there have been games I played in where two weapon fighting DOUBLED (yep, you heard it right, doubled) you attacks.

So if you got 2 1/2 attacks per round (which you may have) that would mean you got 5 attacks per round. Of course being a ranger and all, you probably would have to get weapon specialization (or weapon expertise according to 2.5) which would give you 3/2 at 1-6, 2 at 6-12, and 2 1/2 at levels 13+, or you could see it alternately as

He gets 3/2 attacks (one attack one round, 2 attacks the next) at level 7+/6+, in addition to another attack which would give him 5/2 (2 attacks one round and 3 attacks the next). He then gets Bracers of Speed which double the amount of attacks he gets to make giving him then 5/2 x 2 = 5...in a matter of way of speaking/looking at it.

Just some ways someone might have come up with that number of attacks.

If he got those bracers, wouldn't he have 6 attacks?
Everyone start with 1 attack, as he's dual-wielding he gain one additional and he's level 16 so there he got another one, thats 3.
Also, non-kit rangers cannot specialize.
But I get your point, that he might have some magical item, which grants him more attacks but I think that would be known.

No, not necessarily. They could have it ruled that he gets the 3/2 from levels as a fighter. You add one attack per round to get the 5/2, and then with the bracers of speed (which he got in the novels, so it's recorded there, haven't looked at his stats recently in the books for 2e to see if they included them there however) that would make his attacks to 5.

Interesting thing however, if I remember correctly. Drizzt was stated TWICE in 2e. Once at a lower level, and later at his 16th level.

Prior he was stated at a level 12 hero, and he ALSO had 5 attacks then if I recall correctly. It could be that when they levelled him up to get to 16th level, they updated a few things, but not his number of attacks.

Drizzt's multiple attacks are easy to explain.

He breaks/is an exception to the rules of the game. Tons of NPCs in the Realms are.

If I remeber the books,Drizzt's hand speed was already at an extreme pace.Thats why he now wears them on his ankles giving him the neccessay leg speed to match that of his hands. Just a thought.

Drizzt was a hybrid ranger/fighter with some of the benefits of both classes. If I recall correctly he was an 18th level fighter before he converted to ranger (losing some levels in the process, but keeping weapon specialization).

None-the-less he is unique and has nifty abilities that just aren't part of the normal rules of the game (like his percentage chance to instantly kill things). His move silently and hide in shadows percentages which are through the roof, and he has some other cool stuff...it's been a looong time since I had the Menzoberranzan boxed set, so forgive me if I'm off a little bit.

On an unrelated note, it is possible for a 13th level 2e fighter to get four attacks per round. Fighting with two identical weapons, both of which you are specialized with, gets you 3/2 attacks per round with your off-hand (specialization bonus attacks stack with the normal 1 attack per round granted by TWF), and it gets you 5/2 with your primary hand. 8/2 translates to a nice 4 per round.

Ah yes, I remember he was a fighter before.
That explains why he is specialized with scimitars...

Yeah, I didn't think about being specialized with the off-hand...
Thank you, you'v been very helpful.

Nice eye. That kind of stuff is hard to catch. Also remember that the bracers of the blinding strike that he wears give him the ability to double the number of attacks per round that he can make for one round. That means his 4/round boosts up to 8/round. I agree with nastynate that Drizzt is extremely unique when it comes to abilities. I guess that's one reason why he became so popular.

But if Drizzit's had mastery, and/or grand mastery he would have.
Specialize Master Grand Master
5/2 1 3 3/2 7/2 2
The three books are kind of messed up and when you read them atleast to me it seemed this way.

A character with ambidexterity, fighting style to weapons specialaztions,
specializing in broad groups swords, tight group long blades, mastery in whatever swords. With a dex of 18, will not have any penalties.
But in fact will get the +3 to hit and damaeg with each hand, and recieves and equal number of attacks with each.

Once Ed started making Elminster better than the rules there was no other choice but have Drizzt follow.

Not quite right I think:

The use of two weapons enables the character to make one additional attack each combat round, with the second weapon. The character gains only one additional attack each round, regardless of the number of attacks he may normally be allowed. Thus, a warrior able to attack 3/2 (once in the first round and twice in the second) can attack 5/2 (twice in the first round and three times in the second).

So 13th level melee weapon specialist normally gets 5/2. Add an additional attack each round and you get 7/2. Not quite 4 per round, but close enough 3 then 4 then 3 then 4, etc.
